What do you think about the idea of singing songs by 'secular' bands or artists in church as worship songs? I'm not talking about non-Christian songs or songs like "Highway to Hell" or "Cop Killa" or anything like that. I'm talking about songs like "Everything" by Lifehouse and "40" by U2.
What think ye?
(Lord, please don't let these folks think I'm crazy or that I'm some sort of wack job. And help Diz still be my friend. Amen.)
I am almost to the point where I would say, 'ANYTHING is better than this weepy drivel they call modern church music.'
Generally speaking you run the risk of being perceived as irreverent of the house of God.

I know, I just hate it when people are weeping before the Lord in heartfelt worship. When you can feel the waves of worship across the congregation when no one is cheer-leading or hyping up the music.

I just hate that...

I guess I'm old fashion , but the music of the world, even if it is an encouraging song, pales in comparison to true holy ghost anointed music. Give me some real gospel-like "Living He loved me, Dying He Saved Me, buried He carried my sins far away, rising He justfied, freed me forever, one day he's coming back, one glorious day." or "You don't know, like I know..." No, U2, etc does nothing for me, listen to it in the car, but the church can go so much higher. How bout "draw me close to you" by POA. My opinion
Our youth band uses U2 - "Beautiful Day", LifeHouse - "Everything", Stevie Wonder - "Saved, Healed, Delivered..." (signed, sealed, delivered) Bob Dylan "Serve Somebody", etc... I love watching some new kids' eyes light up when he hears a Lifehouse song. The lyric begins to click. "They're singing about God!". Some kid brought me a disc with, "Crank that Holy Ghost" ala Soulja Boy. It was awesome.
The night we did "Serve Somebody", a 50ish saint was at youth service and finally "got it".
just my 2 cents.
Rock on dude! Sounds like a great church. Beautiful Day is a great song.

I AM SOOO THERE!!!!
It took a long time and prayer before my church even sand songs by Newsboys. But, yes I have and want this to happen in my church. The day I hear a U2 song sung in my church, I will say," I can die happy now!"
But, seriously, U2 started out gospel like, in a punk sorta way, then shifted to material and subjects, that we are in the throws of at this moment in time in politics, (but alot of the evangelicals did not understand it then), and now are back to a rock/gospel thing again.
I like Yahweh, all because of you, still haven't found, streets, grace, beautiful day, one, the first time(made me cry), gloria, 40.
Shockers would be please and in God's country, because they dealt with, the talk but no walk, and apathy,& passivness in the church.
For a funeral, one step closer.
Can you tell I'm a freak for U2 yet? LOL
