The women laid down their sarongs for us to walk on as we entered the church area. Pastor Isaac told me that this was the greatest honor that could be bestowed on anyone exceeding that of kings!

John I have never heard about the sarongs before, is that the green fabric on the floor in the last photo?

No, the sarongs are the "dresses" of the Indian women. They laid them down outside on the sidewalk for us to walk on when we came off the main street to the church. I didn't know it, but Pastor Isaac told me and when I looked at the video later, I saw them.

The symbolism is that these women were laying down EVERYTHING for us in our honor! Incredibly humbling and as I said, uncomfortable... at least for me. Personally, I don't like a lot of "hoopla" when it comes to that stuff.

The "green" stuff on the floor was to protect it from the flowers petals they threw around on us!

Wow fascinating!

I did some reading about sarongs before I went to India last year, and read how some are passed down from one generation to another, so I think a sarong to a woman almost has more meaning to them, almost how us americans would feel about a wedding dress.

You're on target! The whole thing is fascinating. This probably won't happen much in the city churches, but the rural/remote villages are still rife with custom! I'm uploading a video now and will post it afterwards of the conclusion of the 1 day pastor's conference. Talk about rejoicing!

MOW the Bible tells us to give honour where honour is due. Obviously they feel you are due honour. (I know it can also be spelled honor but I like the British English version better) =)
