The founders view of separation of church and state was on a national level not at the state level. This is why the Bill of Rights says CONGRESS shall make no law. It wasn't until many years later when the SC began incorporating the Amendments against the States that this became an issue. The fact is by incorporating the first Amendment against the States it actually weakened the Amendment.

BTW never in the history of the United States post British rule were witches burned. And additionally I don't believe there was ever an incident of which burning even during British rule.

True, good point, and kudos for pointing out that the development of case law originated in the Bill of Rights. OH - Send the bill to Kae.

Is it me am I dreaming and did events at Salem actually never happen? Offered as (one) example of ministerial misapplication of church law absent oversight of secular (or any other) authority.

Also it was nearly 100 years before American rule, they were hung with the exception of one man who was crushed. No one was burned.

Re: Capitol Hill gathering to inspire Muslim aggre

and still we are talking with our muslim friend about what happened in America 300 plus years ago to make a comparison between christianity then and islam today.

As I said before....it is quite telling.

Re: Capitol Hill gathering to inspire Muslim aggre

What's quite telling is your convienent exclusion of the contribution of the god-fearing klansmen and activities of other less palatable bible-thumpers to our history. That would be recent history and not the distant past that you refer to. Said distant past was the last time that church rule was unchecked. At least in our country. Results were discussed earlier. Though I see your squirming comparison as to "when" these things happened I do not see your denial at all. SO - you acknowledge this thing. But somehow you are better. Remember, it is far less important to be correct or factual than it is to be "better". Never lose sight of that. LOL

Being generous: Offering you the opportunity to move your dates around again to any time anywhere in history so that you can show conclusively (1) time, since the time of Jesus, that rule under the religious law of the "church" did not turn into greed, oppression, cruelty, and thirst for power. As rule under the religious law of "Islam" does. Take your time.

Otherwise, you have no standing in this discussion. You have no valid history or valid data to back your "better" feelings. The facts show that unchecked, with nobody around carrying a gun on their hip watching you, the lot of you are just another Klan or Reich or Inquisition or band of witch-hunters just waiting to happen. It looks like although you are "better" in some way you are still human. Alas.

History recent or not indicates that though "better" you are certainly not "different".
