Re: Operation Christmas Child
Not to take away from this project-- but there's another idea that our youth group is doing locally if anyone else wants to do this. We are doing small baskets for nursing home residents. Soaps, shampoos, and other personal care items.
The Young at Heart group will be doing fruit baskets and treat baskets for local emergency workers (police dept, fire dept, ambulance service, etc) to give them a small token of our appreciation for their services to our area throughout the year.

Wonderful idea - and another place to minister would be baskets for hospital ICU waiting rooms - my family was there during July 4th, 2000 - a church brought in all the food you'd think of having that day - it was a real blessing during a sad time in our lives.

Re: Operation Christmas Child
My nephew's church did this last week. They are Baptist and do this each year. He enjoyed being a part of it. He is a senior and I think this is good for him to participate.

I like this idea also Tina.
I wanted to make lap blankets for the bed ridden this year with lots of pockets on it for them to place their things that they need to be handy, like glasses, and remotes, etc.

My parent's church does this on September 11th each year to help say thank you for their service and dedication. The workers really appreciate it!

That is really nice. The youth won't forget that.
Our church has a homeless ministry.. So this year, on a Sunday i think the 6th they are picking up cars full of the homeless that we have ministered to downtown Indy over the last year.
They are bringing them to our church where we will have a short worship service and then a large dinner. They will have a football game on, games and other entertainment. Then we are going to have areas set up where they can get a hair cut by stylist, pedicure/manicures and try on clothes/coats/shoes and get what they need to stay warm. We are going to have packages of personal items for them to take and a gift.
As my pastor said, we are just going to love on these people for a little while.
I thought it was an awesome idea, and looking forward to it.

Re: Operation Christmas Child
There are so many ways to bless others with what God has given us. All of these are great ideas and may spark someone to participate in their hometown! I took toys and food for the local charity putting together baskets and Christmas gifts for families in need in our county. Due to the economy, there will be many more in need this year!

Re: Operation Christmas Child
I dropped my box off Saturday and the lady asked if I minded her praying over the box with me.
I thought that was a very cool thing!
