Re: Protecting kids from church!!
It's true parents are responsible for training, but sad when church folks make it harder.

If you don't feel there is a benefit in your children going to church, take full responsibility for their spiritual welfare at home. Then release them to God when they are older. If you can't find a church that you feel you and your family can worship and fellowship with, what are your alternatives!
I know churches aren't perfect because you have humans there. But those humans at home had better know what they are doing! We MUST train them up in the fear and admonition of the LORD, to the best of our ability and then leave the rest to GOD. There is that part that man can do and then there's that part that only GOD can do!! SAVE us and our children!

Taking this in a little different direction, is it just my experience or do churches generally put the new, inexperienced people with the children? If you are new and want to get involved in ministry, go help with the kids. This infuriates me, because children are our greatest opportunity, and the future.
Along the same lines, we often let someone "practice" their pastoring skills on the youth (Youth Pastor) before we let them try their hand at the "real" thing!
If someone is not called to minister to youth or children don't put them there, it is my opinion that a child is better off sitting with their parents in service than in a classroom being babysat or lied to...
Just a (RANT) thought

A good rant, though!

I don't think I can agree with that. What I would hope would happen is that someone would take the SS teacher under their wings and teach them how to teach. Teach them that there are ways to approach children for the Lord and that there are also ways that are wrong to approach them for God. If this teacher is saying things like this to one child, they are also saying the same to others. Instead of taking his children out and leaving him/her to make the same mistakes over and over on other little ones, the pastor or someone needs to step in and make sure that the MISTAKE is corrected.

Re: Protecting kids from church!!
If your theology says no one is saved until they are baptized and speak in tongues, I'd be going to drastic measures as well -- including telling them what you believe: you are lost without being baptized!

Re: Protecting kids from church!!
I was in my daughters chapel service today and the baptist preacher preached about hell. It was the worst sermon I have ever heard, I wouldn't not want to serve his God.
The motivation to get saved? Not going to this awful hell.
I was so angry at this dude, I wanted to send him on a vacation there. To top[ it off he complained about translators translating the word hell in the passage he was using as "hades" any guesses on what the Greek word is?

An Acts 2:40 sermon, brother. The fire is hot!
In all seriousness now, I think Tim Keller's writing on Hell is in good taste, accurate and poignant. http://www.redeemer.com/news_and_eve...e_of_hell.html

If you have been around Pentecostals, most likely you have heard lots of very good sermons.

If this had been my first exposure to Christianity I would have said no thanks. This guy insisted that this is the message he wants to spread. Not the Gospel, Hell.
