Does God Correct False Doctrine Through Gifts?

Has anyone experienced God correcting a church on false doctrine through tongues and interpretation? Both Trinitarian and Oneness churches exeperience the gifts, how come God isn't correcting them all on their false doctrines?

I've never heard an interpretation or prophesy that sounded like it was correcting false doctrine. The closest I have heard to confirming doctrine was an evangelist preaching Acts 2:38, baptism in Jesus name. At the end of his message there was tongues and interpretation that said essentially "My prophet speaks the truth to you today, why do you not obey?" But I've never heard one that was doctrinal, mostly just warnings and encouragements about following Him

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

I have NEVER heard tongues and interpretation that confirmed doctrine. I have ONLY heard tongues and interpretation that encouraged the assembly.

So is doctrine not that important to Him?

Prophecy and tongues and interpretation are not infallible.
The person speaking conveys his/her own prejudices, ignorances, doctrine.

I remember reading one of the old books by one of the early pioneers, I think it was Bro. Fauss but I'm not sure. He told about in the early days of the Holy Ghost outpouring they would have short term Bible Schools for the ministers. He told of one where the teaching was conducted using tongues and interpretations. One of the things taught was that it is wrong to eat pork. That just showed the bias of the one giving the interpretation.

I think you are correct. The evidence points to this being the case. So it now brings other questions.

Is there an inordinate emphasis placed on any particular interpretation?

Knowing the "message" being delivered is corrupted (at least to some degree) how does what is being spoken carry greater significance than any sermon or message spoken by the same individual without a pretense of supernatural gifting?

In my opinion, a prophecy or message in tongues and interpretation has no more weight than a sermon, or a teaching, or a testimony. Each should be judged by the Word.

Re: Does God Correct False Doctrine Through Gifts?

In the infamous Fudge book, pages 160 and 160, he discusses a "prophecy" by Nathan Urshan at the Harvey Camp Meeting in New Brunswick in the late 1960's. Bro. Urshan said, "Yea, yea, I say unto you. There is no salvation outside of being baptized in water and Spirit in the name of Jesus." He then lists independent confirmation of that statement from three sources.

What really happened there?
-Was that Bishop Urshan speaking ex-cathedra (by papal infallibility) giving direct words from God Himself?
--Was he expressing something he really believed and just expressing his own religious beliefs?
--Was he trying to "line up" some of that group who were "weak on the message"?
--Was he intentionally trying to deceive those folks into believing that these were words directly from God?

I was not there and I don't know Bro. Urshan's heart so I can in no way even try to think what was going on there. That's between him and God.
