Re: Beards?

Have a beard that I keep trimmed very short.

A little while after growing the beard, I got asked to chose between keeping it, or keeping my role "in the church".

I chose the beard.

That proves they are wrong!

I need to bring up the red thread again!

Re: Beards?

Oops!

Somewhere I have posted that Lev 19:27, "Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar [or ruin] the corners of thy beard." applied only to the Levitical priesthood.

Wrong!

This passage applied to the general male population. I did what I warn others about - failing to read a passage within its entire context.

So, I guess now all men must grow full, uncut (untrimmed) beards in order to be on the platform. Right? Hmmmm Brings up another 'apostolic doctrine' problem.

Now, if that verse does not apply to the church leadership, and the members of the church in general, what about the very next verse:

28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead [we generally include body piercing for ear and noise rings for any purpose], nor print any marks [tattoo] upon you: I am the LORD.

So, what then is our justification for accepting one instruction and rejecting another one?

Especially since v 28 wasn't talking about piercings at all, but cuttings done to mar the body as a form of mourning. The marks in the same verse might have applied to mourning as well.

I agree completely with the beards in scripture. There is much more evidence for them than against.

Hmmm... beards are an unmistakable sign of masculinity and maturity... If women can't wear pants, but must wear dresses to show femininity and keep gender distinctions, why do men shave and blur the sexes? I would think a beard would be THE obvious gender distinction. A transvestite can put on a dress, but a woman can't grow a full beard, after all.

No, there have never been any pastor/teachers that 'actually used the Bible' to preach against beards.
