That book is probably considered an "unclean thing." How have we heard that phrase used?

Of all days in the calendar to not go to a church service, why would you not go to celebrate Jesus' birthday? Really? I am still searching for many answers and hoping there is more in this life. But I will absolutely have my family in the house of the Lord to celebrate that morning.

And it doesn't matter to a five year old if you open presents on Christmas morning or any morning. You've already made it about presents to them so they would just as soon open them on Christmas Eve morning!
You don't want to get up and go... Period. Don't blame it on the kids.

Becuase tradition says to get up and go celebrate His birthday on a day that's technically not His birthday. So, I would probably stay home with my kids too. THAT'S a tradition worth writing in the history books about as opposed to "We ALWAYS went to church on Christmas morning."

BTW, there's no "blame" on the kids. It's merely spending time with them, whether on Christmas Day or otherwise...

If its not His birthday then it's a moot point to begin with. There is no reason to even consider canceling normal services. You make memories and family time every day, not just some Sunday morning that means nothing.

Then you be the one to go on Sunday morning, Christmas Day. Others of us will go the night before so we can celebrate the joy the next morning at home.

It all starts at home...

Re: Feels Odd This Morning

My church will be dismissed on Christmas, as will my uncle's. We will be getting together with them and enjoying all of the fun and frivolity that we have every holiday that we get together. On occasion there are gifts exchanged, or maybe we will have a psychoanalysis session, and always food, games, conversation, and lots of friends and family.

Our mid-week service was not cancelled as that is the only service that one of our people can make because of her job. However if it is just us, we may get out early. Also Sunday service is cancelled as the Pastor will be out of town. We cancel only a few services, and I have heard it said by a number of UC preachers that if you backslide from missing a few services in the year, then you were already not going to make it. So the liberals and conservatives have a bit in common to celebrate this holiday season with.

Sorry about all of the smilies, but I have been up for nearly 16 hours on 5 hours of sleep, and that has been about all I have gotten the last several days, so I felt like celebrating a little.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Thanks. I must really be coming across as rather demented tonight. Oh, well. Not much help for that.

Why not Christmas morning? Well..for starters..how about the fact that there is no scripture that tells us to celebrate Christs birth? How about the fact that for MOST families, Christmas remains the only holiday where families get togetehr, many with it being the only time they do all year? How about the fact that since I am a Christian, and a minister, I am at darn near every service all year long celebrating and worshipping Christ and my walk with Him? I don't feel the need to exalt Dec 25th as some super day that it never has been.

As to whether Christmas is about Ppresents or not, no offense...but spare me. He is 5. You show me a child at 5 who has some "revelation" that it's not about presents and such and I'll show you a parent who is lying of naieve. For my boy it is mostly about the magic of Santa and Christmas presents. His mother and I know better, but for us it is still amazing to see that childlike wonder in his eyes. I will get more out of seeing my boy's reaction Christmas morning than I would out of sitting at church hearing another sermon about Christs birth that I already have heard about every year my entire life.
