Re: Preachers/Pastors I have known/loved and why.
I was remembering recently a period in time when my parents won a lady to the Lord when we lived in Kansas. She was our neighbor, had two daughters, and was living with a man.
One day her daughters came running up to our car after we got home from a Sunday morning service, and threw their arms around Dad. Naturally their mother was a short distacnce behind them to see what was going on. After a short time, she started to come to church with us. It seems like it was only about 3 months later she was baptized in Jesus' name and received the Holy Ghost. I remember Dad and Mom being out of town on some service nights (ministerial business that I doubt anyone will remember) and she took us to church.
The last time I had heard anything, she was still in the church and doing well. Both of her daughters had prayed through, although I know that one backslid later. I remember Mom spending hours teaching her Bible studies and giving her a grounding in the Word. At the time, I had a cat that was less than helpful. That was part of the reason that the cat founde herself in new living accomadations.

Re: Preachers/Pastors I have known/loved and why.
I guess the reason that I loved Bro Hosch so much and was glad he was my Pastor is, because he was the same outside of church as he was behind the pulpit.
He helped dig my grandmothers grave, in a rock strewn graveyard beside a little church. And had a piece of chalky white rock hit him in the eye.
He prayed for us, encouraged, and praised us when we were growing up. I loved riding in the church van on trips to fellowship meetings. I got to sit beside him and talk to him a couple of times. I have very precious memories of him, and of course thought I was his favorite person in the world.
His wife was quiet, soft spoken, and loving as well. She always sat in the back of the church, and I loved her smile.

JT Pugh, An old country boy whose love for Jesus bled through his lack of formal education. Ralph V. Reynolds, a level-headed boots on the ground heart for missions man, Leroy Kelly, a preacher passionately wanting the will of God, Alvin Cobb, a great exegetical preacher and one that believes in walking "through the open door". Jim Sleeva, a sacrificial man with a servant's heart for missions, Arlie Enis, a man with a passion for evangelizing the military, Wayne Nigh, a mission's pioneer that translated the bible and choruses into the native language while pastoring the most diverse church in Europe....

I started out under Bro Fred Kinzie, but only for a short time.
After that we moved to a church closer to us and Bro Paul Dennis became our pastor. We only got to have them for about 3 years before God called the Dennis's to the mission field in Japan and eventually as regional field director in the Asian district. But I am still good friends with them and hear from them often. These are some FINE people, folks!
Next I spent some time under the leadership of Bro Roy Well in Pontiac, Michigan. Under Bro Well I learned the power that is in a faithful, committed prayer life. Sadly for us, God called the Well's to become missionaries to Chile, South America. Are we seeing a pattern here, folks? Hang on - cuz it gets better! The blessing for me tho is that even after all these years, I have remained friends with the Well's and have been invited several times to spend time in their home for the weekend.
Then I moved to Owosso, Michigan where my pastor was Bro Harold Roberts. Another very fine man of God.
After that I moved home to Ohio where my pastor was Bro William Schaffner. Sadly, Bro Schaffner has moved on to Heaven. But his wife and I remain good friends. Good people - those Schaffner folks!
So then I spent the next almost 20 years in the United Methodist Church with my husband. Until we decided we needed to make a change and have moved to an Alliance Church here in our town. We love it at this church. It has been one of the best moves we've ever made in our marriage. When we first came here Andy Brake was our pastor for the first 6 or 7 years. And guess what! God has called him to the mission field too! He and his family have moved to Indonesia to work as missionaries.
Sooooo, I think I'm going to get myself a T-Shirt to wear or a bumper sticker for my van. It will say, "I TRAIN FUTURE MISSIONARIES". Because apparently, that is my calling in life. !!! LOL

Ditto, Margies3, on those Ohio ministers... I will just add Victor Bentley, J. Mark Jordan, Jonathan Perry and Glenn Hires. They were all great pastors and true men of God! We learned how to study the Bible and form personal relationships with the Lord Jesus Christ.
There are too many evangelists and visiting ministers to mention by name but we have learned from them all.

Leroy Kelly from Texas?
Ahhh, man! He preached once at our church in Delaware. WOW...just WOW. Beautiful spirit... beautiful move of God under his helm.
I was touched in a powerful way that day.
Thanks for the rekindled memories!

I got to meet Pastor Dennis, on the island of Okinawa.
I liked him because he poked holes in legalism.
