Re: Chris reed joins the ministry elite
I’d like to share some thoughts. This may take a bit, so you’ve been warned.
Over the years I’ve been able to locate some sort of vacation getaways to take my family to that are wholesome, enjoyable locations that allow us to enjoy some new scenery, possibly nicer weather, and maybe a culture where your faith is not under constant and blatant as well as hostile attack. Maybe a mountain town that seems to be less marred by whatever the latest attack on faith and family will be.
I’ve noticed that, (would you believe) I am not the only one who is drawn to this sort of getaway. Incredibly homosexuals are attracted to wholesome, beautiful, and perhaps quaint places as well. I may actually see a few couples, not so many, but it seems that the word gets out. Eventually it gets to be known as a place for them to go and have their gay pride this or that. Think of it as a camp meeting for the gays. Since I’m uncomfortable being around this culture, especially with my family I have to try and find another wholesome, enjoyable place to take my family for a long weekend. Meanwhile, where I did go, the businesses have to adapt. They learn to cater to the gay whatever crowd. This gets the word out that they are “gay friendly” in “Mayberry”. So more gay pride events are scheduled. Which causes the businesses to be even more friendly towards this specific clientele. So it creates a phenomenon that feeds on itself. Soon the families go elsewhere. The gay pride events take over. And eventually the place becomes known for homosexuality, and little else.
Meanwhile, I’ve taken my family and found another wholesome, family friendly place to vacation. Families don’t go to Mayberry anymore. These types of places are no longer wholesome or family friendly. They have effectively screened the wholesome families out. Now they begin to resemble Sodom and Gomorrah. Families avoid them at all costs.
Now let’s talk about the Catholic Church. They have long been known to have issues with homosexuality and pedophilia. It didn’t happen overnight. They had some doctrine that complicated natural relationships. This led to problems. It became a not very well kept secret that there were both homosexuals and pedophiles in the “church”. The church covered it up. This made for a culture that was seen to be homophonic and pedophile friendly. Which attracted more of the same, AAAAND discouraged those who didn’t “struggle” with those issues from applying. Once more it fed on itself. It gained momentum. The more problems arose, the more the Catholic Church covered it up. The more they covered it up, the more they attracted the kind that they were covering for. And we know where that brought them.
Now let’s talk about the Pentecostal/Apostolic churches. . .

Re: Chris reed joins the ministry elite
Okay. Concerning the Apostolic/Pentecostal churches in relation to my earlier post about the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is in my opinion, screening out (albeit unintentionally) wholesome, sincere candidates for their priesthood. Meanwhile attracting the gay and pedophile flavor. What about us?
I’m concerned that we are screening out sincere candidates for the ministry while attracting those who are entirely willing to twist scripture and otherwise lie for money. When you think about the entire financial structure of the UPCI being dependent upon the lie of the tithe doctrine it begs the question.
If they will lie about money, what else will they lie about?
Possibly being faithful to their wife?
Maybe having a word from God for you?
If you have a person who is ethically challenged in the area of finance, where does it end? Maybe it crosses over to other issues.
Maybe we are unintentionally screening for morally and ethically compromised people in the ministry. And maybe we are losing respect for the ministry (another thread, I know) as a result of the ministry being less respectable.
To quote a preacher (I’ve actually heard it from multiple preachers) “if you can’t trust me with your money, why would you trust me with your soul”?
To which I would reply, “ If I can’t trust you to be truthful about money, I will surely NOT trust you with my soul “.
I will “work out my own salvation with fear and trembling” like the scripture admonishes me to do.

I don't care WHO you are, I don't trust you with my soul. I trust Jesus, and I trust His apostles to correctly convey what He said. Everybody else is a "fellow on the same ship" I am on, not the pilot or the captain.

So, is that what you tell the people in your congregation about you being a pastor/elder or whatever position you hold in the assembly?

Brother? Since you brought it up. What do you tell the people in your (supposedly God’s) congregation about you being a pastor/elder or whatever position you hold in the assembly?
