Re: Southern Hospitality

What about Southern Hypocrisy?

LOL.

Had to say that. Someone I know went to the south once and claimed he learned that was the actual case.

Disclaimer: I never said it. He did.

Re: Southern Hospitality

My dear brethren and cisterns (<<< see that?)

This thread started out so nicely. I think some posts need to be either deleted or apologized for.

There are ignorant people everywhere, there are gossipy people everywhere, there are racist people everywhere, there are idiots everywhere.

Up here, I find the country people are the ones with a ready cup of tea and a homemade piece of bread. Down south... if they are as friendly as I'm told I'd love to visit someday!

Re: Southern Hospitality

So does the "South" also consist of Southern AZ and Southern CA? Or is it limited to "Southern States" with a high % of trailer parks?

Randy...

Anyway. Apparently the Southerners and the Yankees like each other as much as the French and English do in Canada at times.

In Christ there is no Jew nor Greek, Male nor Female, Bond nor Free, French nor English, Southerner nor Yankee... or so I thought

Re: Southern Hospitality

I am not Southern I am a Texan. A whole nother country. Texans are some of the most friendly, warm hearted people in the US. We do not however take kindly to anyone being disrespectful, rude, or obnoxious. I treat all people as nicely as I can. Have hardly ever met a stranger. And yes we do wave at each other as we drive by, whether in the car or on the porch. We acknowledge each other. Don't run over our dogs, and be kind to our children and elderly or we will show ya some hospitality, at the hospital!

I have to agree. We tool a week vacation and spent a few days in San Antonio and another few at North Padre islands. The general "friendliness" was evident.

I don't recall who said this but it's a good quote! "I'm American by birth, Southern by the grace of God"

No, RandyWayne; you are now "out West." Out here we try and take the best of everything from each of the "Old Worlds." And we don't really abide folks bringing their "back east" ways out here.

Some people need to practice some of those yoga breathing exercises and just calm down. Where I grew up no one could possibly hold a grudge long enough to get to a neighbor and gossip about it. By the time the milking was done, the hens fed and you let the cows out, you still had at least a 30 minute drive to someone's house. When you finally saw another human being it was so startling that you were just happy to see them and everyone was instantly on their best behavior.

Moving into town was both exciting and frightening.

Now don't take offense because I'm only saying what I was taught by my Oklahoma born and bred family, but they told me there's no such thing [thang] as Texas. I'm told the proper name is Baja-Oklahoma. Like I said, I'm just repeating what I was taught.
