Re: The Other General Conference in Houston 9.13-1
I have gone to Lakewood. I was expecting a HUGE move of God when I got there. What I left with was some disappointment. The music was great, but not dynamic. I was expecting more with who was leading the worship. Huge crowds were overwhelming. The message was all about love and nothing from the bible, although it was an uplifting sermonette.
What I liked?
EVERYONE carried bible! (although we did not use them)
EVERYONE had a smile on their face and was FRIENDLY!
EVERYONE worshipped like they was TOTALLY in love the Lord.
I must have been greeted by 100 or more people. They ALL knew I was a visitor. (I must have had a visitor look on my face)
I was asked to go to the front and give myself to the Lord. Since I was sitting in the back and I am normally not one who likes to go prancing down in front of people, I said that I was already filled with the Holy Spirit, but would be glad to pray with THEM if they would like. They did, so we prayed right at our seats.
So for the preaching and the music, I place Grace Church in front of Lakewood. I would rather go there if I needed a church to go to. Right now, while my son is still a senior in High School, I will keep going to the Pentecostals of Katy. Great pastor, Great music.

You'd prefer Grace Church but for sake of your teenage son you attend POK?
(BTW, I'd also prefer Grace Church)

The Gospel should be our message. Sometimes I'm not sure it's his.
The Gospel is not about being a better person, being happier, being "all that you can be," living your "best life" and all the other pop culture/psychology ........ that so many pulpits are filling up with.... an amalgamation of Western ideals of success with a very Eastern Gospel.
The Gospel is about carrying crosses. The promise of LIFE, being freed from death, trusting Jesus in blessing and in suffering. It's our Story. It's not a infomercial listing all the perks for choosing Jesus. When you see it for what it is, you realize there is no other option, He is the Way.
After reading Leonard Sweet's Jesus Manifesto, I'm convinced many pulpits are absent of the Gospel, and have Dr. Phil psychologists instead. We don't need a back rub, we need Jesus.
|
How much have you actually listened to Osteen? He gives great live advice and practical ways to actually LIVE OUT our faith, something that has been sorely missing in our Christian Culture that revels in explaining the wheel in the middle of the wheel but has no idea how to communicate in a Christian manner with their neighbor.

Re: The Other General Conference in Houston 9.13-1
Just curious.....
I don't know too much about any of these people. However, I am curious.
What is it about John Hagee that so many of you have a problem with? I don't watch TV preachers, but I have several friends who seem to like him.
Can someone give me some insight as to why you are so shocked that Global is having him?
Thanks!
