Like Thinker said, it's time for this garbage to be stopped! If he doesn't like Murrell's singing, then don't buy his records. But DO NOT stand up there and mock him!!! That's WAY out of bounds. "By this shall all men know....." and he made a joke of that statement by Jesus.
I have a son who's gone through brain cancer. Devastating and radically altered his and our lives. He's lost SO much and every area of his life is affected. Someone sent me a tape of Jeff Arnold to help me get back to "The truth", and in the middle of it says, "What's wrong with you people, ya got a tumor in ya head?"
Wow.
How do you think that hit us? It has nothing to do with being "sensitive", it just has to do with using even a tiny ounce of wisdom in making a point.
Does this kind of idiocy have ANY chance of truly be effective? Is there ANY biblical example of anyone speaking like this? What complete disrespect for others. Complete arrogance and disregard for anyone besides his own self. I can't stand it. There is no sufficient excuse that can be offered for that kind garbage.

I do agree with you. It's not funny and should be stopped. I don't want to be called a "cat" or anything other than a brother in Christ.
Having said that, I also understand Pentecostal circles have long done this and many enjoy it even when it's about themselves. I would not be surprised if this minister had said this with Murrell sitting there. It would not surprise me if he was closer to the Ewing family than you and I.
It's not uncommon to razz other ministers from the pulpit for their delivery, content or even their looks.
So very sorry for what happened about the "tumor" tape. How awful! Unintended of course, but no less hurtful for you. I will keep praying for you all.

Solomon taught very strongly the concept of measuring our words...every word. What we say MUST be measured against how it will impact others. I wasn't "offended" at what Arnold said because of "Poor ole me, we've got it tough" but he implied that people with brain tumors were less, were stupid, were not capable. And although my boy will never be able to read or write (radiation closed off certain learning areas), will never drive, may never walk again, will never grow hair on top of his head again...and the list goes on...he is a wonderful person with whom I hold great conversations over breakfast occasionally, who is one of the kindest, most considerate, giving, loyal, and loving people I've ever known, my hero, with an IQ probably as good as most anyone. And to have his disease used to equal stupidity is infuriating.
Yes, I understand jockular teasing, but I can't imagine him saying that with Ewing in the audience...at least, not the way he did. I've seen impersonators on video at BOTT. Great fun. Sure. But to openly make fun, mock? I just can't ever see that as acceptable. Ever.

Would have been mental torture to sit through that.

I think we've all offended by our words. At least that's how I see James 3:2. It may not appear so by some of my posts but I am trying to be more careful with what I say and how I say it. Ephesians 4:15 talks about speaking the truth in love.
Several years ago (about 40) I was teaching the ladies Sunday School class. These were the ladies of the church that were over 35 and were ordinarily taught by Sis. Mary Alice Paslay, an associate pastor. I was filling in for her once but never was asked to do it again. I made some flip remark about people going to church and wearing jewelry and earrings. As I said it I noticed one woman who regularly came there sitting next to a visitor. She was pointing to the visitor with one hand and trying to shield that hand from the view of the woman sitting next to her with her other hand. The woman sitting next to her had on earrings. Many years later that same woman from that church was at our house preparing a meal because of a funeral in wife's family. We had not gone to that church in many years but my wife's mother did. The woman preparing the meal mentioned that years ago her neighbor came to church with her and I said something about earrings and the neighbor never came back. Now, that may seem like a minor thing but it bothered me when I heard it. Maybe the woman would have never come back anyway. I don't know. But, perhaps a remark from me, an unnecessary remark spoken without thinking, may have hindered that woman from pursuing God and further.
I'm sure I've said other dumb stuff since, and still do. Some of you can probably point out some posts here (but I hope you don't) where I have said things in a wrong way.
We had an elder in a church I used to attend that said we should taste our words before we spoke them because some day we might have to eat them.

Re: A Relevant Holiness Message
All the more reason why holy ghost boldness (as some of us have heard it called) is nothing but spiritual arrogance coming from people like this. And, NOW, I cannot even imagine the disgust (if that's what we want to call it) y'all could have felt when hearing that on the tape, especially toward the person who sent you the tape. Seriously? I'm almost sure the Lord weeps at such non-sense...

Yep, I've done my share of it, no doubt.
Once my assistant said the phrase, "treated her like a red-headed stepchild" in the middle of a sermon and on the front row was a teenage girl that had been coming to youth group who was a "red-headed stepchild" being greatly mistreated in her blended home and very self-conscience of her hair because of teasing.
It was a horrible moment and completely unnecessary. Sure, I'm too politically correct, but it's a much better mistake to make, in my opinion. Why eliminate part of the audience by being loose with words? Makes no sense.
