What I believe should not have an effect on what anyone on this board does. In my personal opinion the only person Matt should be talking to this about in the church is the pastor. None of the other members should be told and for exactly these reasons.

That's rough Jay. Restrained and sedated? Ouch. We're human beings.

I can almost imagine God saying something similar to "Fool of a Took! Next time throw yourself in and rid us of your stupidity!" -Gandolf.

Re: Gossip
I am not actually as heartless as what that post might make me to appear. However, as I have dealt with people who became increasingly violent, I am a strong believer in restraints and sedation. I do understand that there are limits, however I would rather be allowed to pass before allowed to arrive at such a position.
I would be happier if we had more control over restraining these individuals for the safety of others. However, there are many things that we are no longer allowed to do, and it is in the name of humanity. However, these are the very people who will bite, kick, scratch, and hit with no provocation. I do believe that there must be a balance between their freedom and the safety of others.

Huh?
Every time you try to clear this up you wind up with more of something you need to scrape off your shoe... Maybe you should quit while you are ... totally buried in your own craziness.

Re: Gossip
When a person must deal with those who are crazy, can it be helped if he is more than slightly crazed himself?
I am not inhumane, but there must be a better way of balancing our humanity with the reality that people do need to be protected from those who are violent. I would say that part of the problem with a mental ward is the oppressive atmosphere, which then lends itself to further mental instability.

Are you saying that you deal with these types of people on a regular basis?
Perhaps we are not understanding what you are saying, maybe because your job description may put you in a place where people have to be restrained, such as law enforcement perhaps?
Perhaps we are understanding you to speak in a general way, paraphrasing "mentally unstable people need to be restrained", which sounds terrible!
But, if you clarify your position better, perhaps you wouldn't have so many "rocks" thrown at you

Uh-oh... am I throwing rocks? Not my intention!
I like you Jay, you seem like a nice guy and this does seem out of character for you... But just to be plain... how I would deal with someone in a hospital setting and how I would deal with... say... someone on my property when I am alone at night is quite different and might better belong in the firearms thread.... so maybe I get where you are coming from.

Ha, well, I think it is more like iron sharpening iron... just trying to help him to clarify his position, because it seems like he keeps digging a bigger hole trying to explain himself... lol... something perhaps we all do at times

Re: Gossip
Jay,
I read a book recently, and it really changed my perspective on mental illness, and demon possession. You probably can get it at a local library or if not, here is the link on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Tormented-Year.../dp/0892281774
I would suggest everyone could learn something by reading this book.
It illuminates the fact that no matter how desperate a situation may seem ... mental illness... demon possession.... that the weapon of our warfare, the Word of God, is the answer to true deliverance, and victory.
