It lists 2 things preceding the Day of The Lord, it doesn't say that one necessarily precedes the other. (Kinda splitting hairs tho...)

There are multiple events that must happen "simultaneously" to be called...SIGNS of the end times. There have always been events occurring(earthquakes etc), but not with all of the other signs happening at the same time in history. (technology had to reach a level like it is now for instance). Vs 26...shows mens hearts "failing them" for fear of the things coming on the earth. In the days of Jesus, it would have took a year to hear global news and create panic. NOT SO NOW though. We can all "stress out" together all over the world simultaneously over world events.
