There must have been an epidemic 😷 of sickness sweeping through the early church. The OBVIOUS truth is that they drank wine. Routinely. Kind of like we think of the Italians today.
You have a hang-up about drinking, like you did have about tithing. The drinking issue just doesn’t hit as close to home?

Sure it does, I was raised in an alcoholic home, did it in my youth, saw family trouble in my adult years and know folks that died, dying or are in prison over alcohol.
My wifes father was an alcoholic WW2 hero, that died young from falling and hitting his head as a drunk.
Christians want to portray the #1 vice in the history of the world as "not so bad"?
Thank God the church I first was saved in was against it, because I would have never made it without their abolitionist stance of it.

Re: Wine vs Grape Juice
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Question, how much wine before we are not Spirit filled?
Does the Spirit un-fill us in stages or all at once as we drink wine?

Wine was a part of their everyday life. Everyone drank wine, as well as water. We even don't have any indication that there was a prohibition for children to drink it. Wine, oil, water, wheat, fish, meat. All part of the Middle East grocery list.
Italians?
Italians drink wine and French drink champagne?

Sean, I’m sorry that you’ve had trouble with alcoholism, and drunkenness. I really am. However you’re talking about drunkenness, I’m talking about drinking. They can be related, but they don’t have to be. That’s my point.
Just as sex within marriage is a wonderful thing, and outside of marriage, it’s a sin. Both are sex. Drinking wine is fine, getting drunk is not. That’s Bible.
I have personally consumed alcohol several times in my life, but I’ve never been drunk. I am thankful that I’ve never had any trouble with alcoholism close to me. But if I had, it still wouldn’t affect whether or not, it is sin.

The scripture you quoted, answers the question you asked. Refer to the word “excess”.

You are a rarity bro.
Also, sex and alcohol are not a good comparison.
God did not say this.....
Be fruitful, have a glass of wine and replenish the earth with vineyards.

They ARE a good comparison, in the way that I’m using them. Do you really think that children growing up in the home of a single parent is not as damaging to society as alcohol is?
You were mixing scripture. I didn’t do that.
My comment was that drinking is fine, until it becomes sin, which happens when you drink in EXCESS, as your scripture stated. In both cases, drinking is done. At a point it can become sinful, or not.
My point is not even about drinking. It is about saying something is sinful that the Bible doesn’t. Something that Jesus did, along with the apostles. That’s all.

Re: Wine vs Grape Juice
Look, God made us naturally to mate.
God did not make us natural to drink alcohol.
That is like saying God made us natural to drink a foo foo drink at Starbucks.
Booze is a preference, and an addicting one at that.
