Re: Depression

This is a complex issue. I am aware that I may be oversimplifying but some times a lot of prayer can’t do much if an action isn’t taken.
For example, I know of one that struggled with depression and prayed a lot for deliverance with no answer. I saw the tears and the desperation and the pain. However it was obvious that the solution required a big change of mentality and lifestyle. Too big of a change at the time. Well, years later, after surviving with the meds, the needed change happened, and the guy is doing much better.

I know also of another similar case. And it took years of praying and reflection for the gal to break the stronghold that was causing her depression. She now testifies of her victory and helped others in similar situation.

Sometimes is a stronghold that you don’t even realize is in you. You only see the symptoms and don’t understand why. It takes a while for yourself to realize and admit the actual cause and have the will to overcome.

The same can be said for many cases of Anxiety. BTW, suffering Anxiety can cause depression.

I suffered bad anxiety, and while asking God for deliverance, his Spirit revealed to me that I had to make an effort to truly believe He could heal me. When I was feeling like a mess I told myself “one day I will be free of this, Jesus will keep working on me until I am whole”. Guess what was the cause of my Anxiety? Yes, lack of faith. I had to make an effort and start identifying and ignoring the thoughts of doubts and lack of trust; and quote scriptures to keep my soul on track. It took me a while to truly get strong against the temptation. Doubts can be very subtle, and lack of trust masks itself well.
To this day, I still pray every morning to be strong in faith during the day. I have overcome so much since then.

Re: Depression

Was able to return back to a trusted doctor yesterday. I told her about my own bout of depression. She asked if I took any meds to battle it. I told her no, and that I simply bucked up, looked in the face, and was able to be turned around. Sometimes meds work, but for others they are not needed or do not work. It is all in the hands of the Lord.

Re: Depression

Two quick things on the subject. The chemical balance in the brain causing depression is an unproven theory. There is no proof antidepressants work.

The real thing which gets out of balance is hormones.
Menopause is a good example when hormones get out of balance in females.
But anything can get them up or down. Foods, environment, stress, even weather. Taking powerful psychotropic medications only cause the hormones to go further into unbalance.

There are things in the body that can get out of wack, but the theory about the serotonin imbalance in the brain can't be proven. Serotonin in the brain is produced in the brain separate from the rest of the body. There is not way to check the level. It's all a theory, I am sure the drug companies are behind the push of depression and meds.

Now we have church folks buying into it and pushing it , even ministers. We can become mentally depressed, but there is usually a cause and effect at work. What happened to the fruit of the Spirit is.......?

Re: Depression

Anyone google high and low levels of Serotonin.
Then post what the “perfect” balance is. What is the normal level? There actually isn’t any. The indicator that your level is fine is by your feelings. So, R Kelly level was normal when he was writing songs for Space Jam, and Michael Jordan. But his level became abnormal when he was arrested.
