Here we go with the final report!

I met Simeon Young Jr for coffee and muffins and we ended up talking church stuff for about three hours working out an idea I came up with after having dinner with Phil Jones and he made the statement "season of consecration". I've been working on a "Month of Consecration" all summer for September and Simeon loved the idea and went wild with it. Our churches are going to team up together and take this 30 day journey of consecration. Needless to say, I missed the morning sessions.

Danny Rivers from Houston, TX challenged the kids to do benevolent work and showed video of Pentecostal youth helping to feed the hungry, provide clean water in third world countries, etc. (This was reported to me from my youth leader.)

We arrived early for church (6 pm) and still had to sit in the nose bleeds. Nevertheless the service was one for the ages.

The worship began with "Dancing Generation" by J Dean and PB. The place was rockin! There wasn't a stationary person in the building! The crowd was not full capacity, but probably at least 16,000 maybe as high as 19,000.

Guys I can't keep my eyes open, I'll have to finish later.

Please pray for our safe return and a safe journey for ALL that are traveling the highways from NAYC!

Okay.

At the end of the first worship set, Wayne Francis kept the praise going by continuing the "Dancing Generation" tune but had everyone squat down and softly sing, "Hallelujah, Hallelujah" to the music of "Dancing Generation". Then as he raised the volume and as we followed, we stood to our feet and worshipped more intensely. It was really powerful to ecperience averone in one accord in praise. The Presence of the Lord was rich.

Shay Mann went on a long thank you to everyone from the security guys to the booth operators, etd. I stepped out thinking, "Can't they send these guys a note in the mail and save the time in the service?" Finally they did a tribute to Todd Gaddy since this was his last YC as Youth Prez. Very nice.

Then a video about Project 22:39. The effort ended up feeding 10,000 people here in Charlotte. Over 1500 of the young people here participated in the school supply distribution. Very well done, very exciting. The theme of the week over and over again was taking our Christianity and putting into action.

They announced the Talent Search winners for each category. (Did I mention there was a talent contest each night 30 minutes before service began?) Mark Crowder from Indy won for the men. Brittany Macey from Houston won for the ladies. And Exodus (the Trimble boys) won for the group competition. Each recieves $1,000 plus all expenses paid recording.

Bro David Elms Sr (NC Dist Supt) led the offering. He declared how refreshing it was to see our godly young people all over the city. He made special emphasis on the young ladies uncut hair. He said it was exciting to see the young people praising God with clean hearts, clean hands and clean faces.

IBC's Praise sang two selections: "There Are No Orphans" and "I Got Sweet Victory". The ministry of music was better with this group than the others I felt.

WF led a SFC video showing what their money does. The video was called "Reality" and a trio sang a song "That's Reality" written by the young man in the trio.

J Dean and PB sang "Jesus the Most Beautiful Name that I Know". The they followed that with "All I Need Is You, Lord". There was a holy hush all over the arena. The lights were turned down, soft blue spot lights were rotating all over the room. A heavy Presence of the Holy Ghost was there. You kid hear thousands of kids softly weeping and speaking in tongues. Finally a girl in the PB bagan singing "Worthy, worthy, You are worthy, worthy is the Lord" over and over again in a very echoing, haunting and soulful manner. Finally she just got overwhelmed and dropped the mike and put buried her face in her hands weeping uncontrollably---it was all I could do to maintain composure.

The atmosphere was ripe for anything.Todd Gaddy graced the pulpit and without manipulating the situation said, "You have permission to keep worshipping. Its okay, its alright." I am so impressed with this guy. There is no phony in him. He is not going to manufacture a move of God---its going to be God or its not going to be.

After wuitet a while he asked everyone if they could to bow their knees to Jesus. It was a sight to see tens of thousands of young people on their knees to God. Then after some time he asked everyone to stand to their feet and with hands lifted high and worship. It went on for another fifteen minutes of continuous praise. Then he said, "I want you to look at the Scripture" (on the screen and began to read from John 17:1-3.

I don't know if he titled the message but I would say it would have been "The Hour Has Come". He talked about how we are good at glorifying God but the finishing the work part is much more difficult. We have glorified the Lord all week and we have done it well, but what about the work we must finish when we leave here? Its a messy job. He told of a young person this week that whispered in his ear, "Bro Gaddy pray for me, I am struggling with my sexual identity." He said through tears "If anyone here has treated you with anything less than decency and compassion, I am sorry". He challenged the kids that the hour had come to not only glorify the Lord but to finish His work. He said someone said "I've been in church 30 years"! He then said "Oh so that's your problem!" He said "Of course I'm not saying you should not be saved or belong to a church. I'm not advocating backsliding. But we pride ourselves on being 'in church' but we forget about all of those poor souls who are outside of the church. He said a great youth center was nice, but that's not His work. A fun youth group with slick logo and t-shirts and activities is great, but that's not His work. He showed slides of a youth group in Madisonville, KY that went to the streets and passed out free bottles of water and food and sang in the park and witnessed to people and prayed for them. He showed video footage of them baptizing a new convert as a result of that effort.

The message by far was the best of the week. And get this----he only preached 30-35 minutes! Finally someone gets it, you can communicate to youth and not go an hour! There was much more said and I would suggest anyone ordering the message from Word Aflame. But TG did one of the coolest things I think I have ever seen a preacher do, especially during a big event. When he was done preaching, he laid down the mike and walked off the platform. And we never heard from him or saw his face on the platform again.

Kids had been cascading down to the altar the last ten minutes of the message.

J Dean and PB began singing "God give us a heart, give us Your heart like Your heart, deep cries out to deep. God give us a heart, give us a heart like Your heart, for the least of these." Perfect song. The worship and crying out to God lasted 45 minutes at least. Our kids were a mess. The little girl that my son has been bringing to youth group with him was on her knees in the arms of several girls weeping and she received the Holy Ghost! She was not going to get to go b/c her single mom (who has been also coming to church) couldn't afford to send her. We assured her that the expense would be taken care of. Great investment!

I hate to say it for the sake of sounding cliche-ic but I honestly believe this is the best youth event I have ever been to anywhere, anytime. Maybe the best event I've ever been to period.

Pray for us and all on the road!

I'm off to get donuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From today's Charlotte Observer:

PENTECOSTAL CONFERENCE

Worship knocks them down, lifts them up

Youths fill Bobcats Arena with their faith
KAT GREENE
kgreene@charlotteobserver.com

Inside Charlotte Bobcats Arena on Thursday night, 16,000 young people were screaming, crying, rolling on the floor and speaking in tongues.

While many their age were out partying for the night, these kids were gathered for the North American Youth Congress. Held by United Pentecostal Church International, the three-day event that started Wednesday included sermons, community service and a talent show.

"It's a big thing, kind of like the Super Bowl of youth group conventions," said Victor Neal, 18, of Chesapeake, Va.

Kids from all 50 states came to the event, often in chartered buses filled with youth groups and their pastors.

To worship in the Pentecostal sense means you have to really feel God, said Jessica Wallingsford, 16, of Houston.

"You feel it when he's there," she said.

Victor said the event was promoted at his church, where he recently became active. "The atmosphere is amazing," he said. "It makes you jump, it makes you pray, it makes you worship."

During Thursday night's sermon, the crowd pushed toward the stage, reaching their arms up, casting their faces into the bright stage lights.

It was hot and crowded, not unlike a rock concert's mosh pit. But these kids were praying.

Tears and sweat streamed down their faces, and they clung to each other as they became overwhelmed by their emotions.

Many come from broken homes or a bad past, said Donny Willis, assistant to the youth president for United Pentecostal Church International. The kids may not have anyone but their youth pastor to turn to, he said -- and God.

Stephen Sanford, a youth pastor from Little Rock, Ark., said he wanted to bring his youth group here so they don't "go down the wrong path" later. Before he entered the church, he was into drugs, he said. The day he found God, he had been awake for more than 48 hours on crystal meth.

"God started dealing with me," he said, and he decided to go to church. It was the first time he spoke in tongues. He was 19.

His mission, he said, is to keep kids from making the same mistakes he did.

Still, he doesn't expect miracles.

"Despite what we teach them, they're still going to be teenagers," he said.

Pentecostal girls do not cut their hair or wear makeup, but many wore ornate French barrettes. They also wore Jackie Kennedy-like suits -- "popping" the collars, something the kids jokingly call the "Pentecostal Pop."

Long after the sermon ended, they lay on the floor in those suits, writhing and crying.

They didn't get up until security guards asked them to leave.

I know the mother of our music minister (he was in the Praise Band) purchased a DVD of all of the praise and worship.

We got a good report from my son this morning.

A good friend of his who has sought the Holy Ghost for a good while received it in the service last night.

We are thrilled!
