Real truth can stand up to any scholarly questioning and research.
When you research and find the believe to indeed be truth, the result is that you are stonger in your belief of that truth.
I believe the end result is more unity, but not in the way that you wish it would be.

Presumptuous aren't we? Care to share how it is "not in the way I wish it would be?"

Perhaps you could share with the class how PM's last line is accurate. How is it unity "just not in the way I want it to be"? You obviously are also clairvoyant and have supernatural insight into unmentioned "ways I want things to be"!

That is such a shame and I apologize on behalf of those who did such a thing.
PianoMan is correct that truth will stand up to scholarly scrutiny and one who believes he has truth should never fear questions. Actually they should relish the opportunity the question creates for them to teach and share the beauty of Godly truth!

What happens when you come up with a different conclusion that what you were taught is wrong...lets say I went to church ABC all my life, then someone from XYZ invites me to a bible study and shows me a different truth....who is wrong...? Is anyone, all, no one?

I know that you are very conservative, and in my opinion the unity won't come from the ultra conservative camp! I didn't mean for it to sound like it did!

If you receive a revelation of a different truth, that would mean that in your mind the previous was in error!

To me that would be when we would need to really start studying and find out what the Bible really says about the issue in question. and that may mean for a bit forget what church ABC and XYZ says and just take time to decide on our own what the Bible says, then compare what ABC and XYZ says and see if one of them matches what you see in the Bible

Pianoman,
I am personally quite conservative... but I DO play golf. and I have never denied you as my brother in Christ or questioned your salvation.
Have a great time with Dan the Man tonight!

Okay... I'll probably get some sort of ban for being this far off topic- but this has been really bugging me as I read this thread:
NightOwl! Did you recently change your avatar and put up one with an oven mitt? It seems to me that the oven mitt just appeared. Or am I mistaken and the oven mitt has always been there but I never noticed?
No lies! My sanity depends on knowing the truth of such things...
