Not yet? That means there is currently, and never has been, any objective BIOLOGICAL method for diagnosing mental disorders. Just let that sink in for a moment. It means psychiatry is LITERALLY on the SAME LEVEL as tarot readings and shamanic vision quests - it's all about some white-coat's personal "intuitive" opinion, not SCIENCE.

That's an exaggeration. Also, it depends on the disorder.

Do you get that? It means the field of psychology is NOT ACTUAL SCIENCE. Well, what do you call something presented as science that isn't? PSEUDOSCIENCE, on the level of orgone therapy, crystal power, and psychic readers.

To the Guardian's article, I found this response to be interesting:

Fairly ridiculous statement. I'm a doctor. I've prescribed anti-depressants in the past- with great reluctance- because patients wanted them. I have explained to every patient that there is a difference between a biological upset in the brain- which anti-depressants can treat- and a perfectly normal response to a horrible life event (break-up, death in the family etc) and that drugs won't do anything to help you if you are feeling wretched because your mother has terminal cancer/your husband has run away with his secretary/you've been sacked, in fact it will probably make them feel worse because they'll still be grieving/dumped but then they'll also be sad with physical and mental side effects. I've offered people talking therapies and NHS self-help guidance and still they are desperate for anti-depressants. And when faced with someone who is desperate and has pinned all their hopes on a "miracle" medication, it is hard to say no to them, when they think that is what could help them.

And I'm not remotely in the pocket of drug companies, I've never even met a psychiatric drug rep and I've only ever prescribed generic off-patent anti-depressants as per NICE guidelines.

This is about using peyote, mushrooms, soma, hallucinogens, etc. as part of ritual practice in order to perform divination or channel some spirit.

It's not about the medicinal use of extracts, derivatives, or compounds. This assumption would make Alka-Seltzer a magic potion that could leave one in serious trouble with God. I honestly don't know of anyone who drank Alka-Seltzer and danced around an idol repeatedly chanting, "Plop-Plop Fizz-Fizz Plop-Plop Fizz-Fizz", in order to receive a vision of the future. lol
