All I can figure is TLC is pretty elderly now, his time in the sun has past and First UPC in Jackson is now a far cry from what it was in its heyday.

Maybe he sees this as one final chance to make an impact.

If he IS calling preachers to leave, it IS petty.

And while TLC could be simplistic and not a real critical intellectual thinker, "petty" is a word I thought I would never use to describe TLC.

Sounds to me like these guys are using him for some kind of mascot.

Quite sad and pitiful, really.
It reminds me of toddlers that don't get their own way so they throw a tantrum right there on the floor kicking and screaming until Mom and Dad gives in to them.Of course we all know the best thing Mom and Dad can do for the child is to let it scream.

This time there will not be quite that many.

I would be forced to agree Tim.

The TLC I knew would not only have amened Travis's letter he would have authored one in the same vein.

It is sad, he taught us better than that.

The same "toddlers" who instituted the infantile AS, perhaps?

As far as RES 3 goes it is nothing more than a billy club used to smack men who leave the mothership.
TLC has been in this position of leading the charge from even before the KP/MH fight, his joining the TV opposition is no surprise to me at all. Completely distracted him from any positive direction since. I attended his stepbrothers church in Dallas at the time, he came and preached, it was lifeless and dull. Something changed him, IMO.

He was a major factor in the early seventies "Deeper Life Conferences", the forerunners of BOTT. After the 1977 TV fight, seems his progress has been greatly blunted, I am very sorry, such a waste.

I've heard or read that 800 figure somewhere.
I wonder how accurate it is?
And how would you know?

But the elder should also operate within the constraints that he voluntarily laid upon himself when he joined the fellowship. Speaking against the org's position on an issue is one thing; setting up your own little phone bank and calling everyone in your rolodex and trying to persuade them to drop out is something else.

When I left the org I did so for principled reasons that cut far deeper to the heart than whether or not some other preacher is watching SportsCenter. I kept my silence at great personal cost and took so many hits that some people marvel that I'm still alive. I marvel.

But through it all I have always tried to be focused on the problem and the sources of the problem and not just stand here and cast blame upon the innocent. We have a culture that fosters disagreements and cultivates constant splits and tears to the body of Christ. That's not good.

To be fair, as far as I can tell every Christian organization that has ever existed - beginning with The Twelve - has suffered similar problems and turmoil. But we must continue to do battle with our own natures and seek to overcome in a spirit of humility and grace.

Why this principle does not follow more posting, amazes me.

Especially knowing some who are posting have no interest either way.

Most reports I've heard have it at 1,000 Total.
Remember, a good number who are leaving are not joining the Tulsa group. VM and most in his cirlce are going Independent.

There's a large number going to the Tulsa meeting just to check it out.
If they can convince these men who are on the edge to join up, the numbers maybe higher.
