I think he is pretty stupid. If he left...he didn't get paid. In almost 15 years on the road EVERY pastor has waited till the last possible second to hand you a check.

I don't use guys who do "cold calls."

if I tell you to call me when I am in the area, or if a trusted friend refers you, then maybe.

I even got burned by a guy referred by a friend once.

It wound up being funny...I finally got so mad at the guy that I told the Lord if He didn't shut him down, I was going to do it myself. Thirty seconds later, the guy made a dramatic hand gesture and busted his finger open on the corner of the podium. It turns out he was the wek stomached type who couldn't stand the sight of his own blood.

He turned pale and turned the service back to me.

In my very first revival, the Lord smoked out the pastor who happened to be in sin at the time, and he resigned after trying toi get me to take the church on the last night of the meeting.

That didn't exactly further my career as an evangelist.

I had no clue what I was doing...I was just preaching along and saying what God gave me to say...you can imagine my shock when the pastor ran to the altar wailing and repenting.

Oh well, I couldn't preach good enough to keep booked anyway.

Results is the bottom line.

Whether the results are measured in the number of new converts, backsliders being refilled or the church revived and refocused toward the lost community around them, the bottom line is RESULTS.

Here is one for the books:

The pastor that married my wife and I had previously been a fairly successful UPC evangelist. During that time, he had a particular meeting where he was informed by the pastor (who had previously been burned by an evangelist) that he would be paid by the soul. Which, of course, was difficult as there were no visitors.

He was given a $20.00 bill and told to get out of town when the week was over.

It can go both ways.

So, then, should there be any aspiring evangelists out there, can any of the pastors here make suggestions on how they would go about scheduling?
