Re: What was Paul's thorn in the flesh?
I still say it was the hard headed people he was surrounded by.

I have seen so many lies posted. The best one is the one Triumphant 1 did his best to combat. You know, the hair cutting party thing?
Prominent members of this board chose to believe the lie and even continue to spread it, even though T1 had totally proved it was false.

Re: What was Paul's thorn in the flesh?
1. Paul, who was Saul, was a murdering anti-Christian zealot. How does one escape the memory of such actions, even after conversion? Memory alone could have crippled Paul. Remember his claim of "chief sinner?"
2. Why did Paul never marry? I think that is one of the most intriguing and unknowable questions in Christian history. The fact is, Paul's unmarried state defined the way he interacted with others, the way he wrote and the way he treated his ministerial companions. Paul was way harsh. Remember, it was not that Paul couldn't marry. It was an obvious preference of his.
3. "My grace is sufficient unto thee." God apparently felt Paul's thorn was not a sin, because if it were he would have forgiven Paul and delivered him from bondage.

On number one I wonder if the God who forgives would deliberately allow someone not to forgive themselves and torture them with their past, doesn't seem consistent with forgiveness.
Number two, some believe Paul was married for instance F.B Meyer in his book Paul: Servant of Jesus Christ, makes a fairly strong argument for Paul having been married.

Re: What was Paul's thorn in the flesh?
I am waiting to see what 1Cor presents as his view of this thorn. Has he done it already and I just missed the post? It's hard to tell with all the competition to see who can come up with the best put down.
