Strange how "standards" can change when it comes close to home.

Some years ago, maxi coats were a style.
A local UPC pastor preached against them until his daughter got one.

What's my point? There were "normal" UPC churches in the 50's without lots of manmade "stuff". Notice I didn't say no manmade rules.....but it wasn't the focus.

Alot of what we heard or later "inherited" were standards based on legalism from other pastors, churches, saints that moved there....but our pastor was not a puppet.

He was born in Persia and raised in Canada; a very good man.

Re: Old Time Pentecostal Holiness Standards

Through the years I heard most of those.

My mom did mention hearing teaching against fiction and comic books.

TV +++ our pastor didn't own one but nearly all the church folks did.

Our church did take a stand on no movies and of course there was no home version then

I sat under a preacher once who confessed that reading a newspaper had left him feeling convicted... so he quit reading newspapers for a year. No TV, no radio and no newspapers - no Internet even available yet.

He wanted all of us to join together with him in this "fast."

The perfect format to be uninformed.

And a year later all the men's wives have left them and are now part of his inner circle because "Despite my protests, GOD told me to take them as a sign of their commitment to Him".

Soon after, National Geographic will be filming a documentary on the new "village" and the exulted leader.

Actually CC1, some of these "Ole Time" preachers' and peoples' attitude toward you is a shining example of how irrelevant and out of touch "ole time pentecost" is.

I've read over the last six years going back to AFF where you've been called a liberal and one who would let anything go, probably even down to orgies because of course, if you don't toe the line like they do, you're liable to let ANYTHING go on in your life.

And heck, as far as political views, you're a true-blue right-wing reactionary.

Ah Hah, but they will read louis L'Amour, thus taking pleasure in those who ride horses and are therefore guilty of the same.
