Re: Should I Get Excommunicated?

My friend I realize the Eldership at your congregation is not the final authority the decison is yours to make, pray about then do what you feel God would have you to do.
Personally I would say leave it alone, but I'm not you.

I disagree with the implications of this statement.

In a way, you are correct and if the "Eldership" of your assembly is wise, he did not try to command you one way or the other in an area that is not exactly spoken to in scripture.

But you my friend, need to humble yourself enough to be able to submit to the scriptural authority position that the "Eldership" in your assembly hold over your you.

These folks love you. It's there responsibility to feed and clothe you spiritually. They look out for you-- that is their God-given role.

Remember your role, your place in God's kingdom and foster a spirit of humility towards your church leadership.

I don't know you personally, but the idea of someone openly stating what you have stated gives me the impression that you're heart is in danger.

Personally I would just go and tell them to take me off the role sheet. I don't know about the family thing. Jesus said he came to set children against parents, brother against brother etc.

(Mat 10:35) For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
(Mat 10:36) And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

But thats just me. I'm personally just so against the Catholic Church teachings and what they stand for that I wouldn't feel right being associated with it in any form even if it was just from their perspective.

To me the RCC is no better than if I was in the Jehovah's Witness hall or the Church of Satan. I would definitely get myself removed from those lists so in the same way I would get off the RCC lists.

If you stay on the list as a "backup" they might come to think that you somehow approve of the RCC and give them more reason to trust in it.

Re: Should I Get Excommunicated?

lets try to put this in a nutshell .first of all his pastor is in the same position as he is yet has chosen not to do the excommunication thing, has advised him to work on being a witness, concentrate on the apostolic church . doesnt think the eldership is the final authority, which by the way includes the pastor.imho. AND YET he is asking the advice of a bunch of us who he doesnt know, has no idea what our relationship with God is, or any of our standards and beliefs . ARE YOU KIDDING ME! i can see some other lines coming in the future like, the pastor cant tell me what to do. its not his church its Gods church , besides he is just another man . etc. etc . just do whatever ya want. why are you asking everyones advice? your gonna do it anyway. reminds me of the guy who asked his pastor what he should do and the pastor told him and after arguing with the pastor he said ill have to pray about it ??? the pastor said later i dont even know why he asked for the advice to begin with . the only advice he can be given is hit the altar and pray through.

Praise the Lord oletime, please allow me to digress a little here for a moment,

with all due respect, I think you may be jumping to conclusions here...

He can read, can't he? If he reads enough of these posts he will pretty much know how I/we/you believe, not to mention the Holy Spirit can reveal that very quickly to him...

First of all, if I am understanding correctly, Sept5SavedTeen is seeking counsel from the Brethren on this subject, not instructions or orders, those should come from the Word of God alone, especially if dealing with eternal subjects...

Second of all, Sept5SavedTeen has seen the corruption of the so called priest hood of the RCC, and God has opened his eyes that Jesus Christ is our High Priest and Captain of our Faith and Final Authority, not the pastor/eldership...

Sept5SavedTeen is right in saying his pastor/eldership is not the final authority, no man is, except Jesus Christ...

The Word of God, and will Always take precedence over what any man/woman has to say or preach, including the pastor/eldership!

I have a Bible full of scripture to back this up...

I was at my grandparent's house yesterday, with my sister and my uncle, aunt and one cousin. We had a good dinner together, and all my dad's family is Catholic. Since myself and my sister are not, we always seem to get a religious question thrown our way, and it always seems to motivate more and more religious questions. Sometimes it's fun, interesting and sometimes annoying.

Anyways, at one point in the conversation, my uncle asserts that my sister and I were both "baptized" Catholic (we were christened as infants), and that as much as we might want to undo things, that, we can never "undo" our "heritage." I reminded him that Catholicism is not a "heritage" or "nationality", and that if my sister and I are "Catholics" then we are really funny ones, who believe in One God, Acts 2:38 salvation, holiness, and we deny the papacy, Mary-worship doctrines, ect, ect... Then they went on to say, "Well your names are still on the roles..." And I responded back with, "Then perhaps I ought to get excommunicated..."

The place went quiet...

My grandmother says, "Oh, umm... no, no... you don't want to do that."

My aunt says, "It's like double-insurance, just leave it alone..."

My grandfather mentions that if I just keep my name on the roles, even if I stay the way I am the Catholic Church will still be willing to do my funeral and bury me in a Catholic cemetery...

Although these answers were very "convincing"... NOT... I do wonder if this statement of excommunicating, might show my family that the Catholic Church is, indeed, nothing, and that I have nothing to fear by having my name taken off the roles, and even being, purposely removed from the Catholic Church. I have been apostolic since 2004, and even before that, I have gone to Protestant churches since I was 10, so I'm fairly well-removed from the Catholic Church, and I have no desire to return, and plus, if I did want to after being excommunicated, I'm sure they'd take me back, eh?

What do you all think?

-Bro. Alex
Praise the Lord Sept5SavedTeen,

If this really bothers you I would get down to business with God on my knees until I got an answer from Heaven...

Also, I would question where the disturbance/discontent influence is coming from, It may not be from God, that is why prayer is needed...

If you have been Born Again of the Water and of the Spirit according to Acts 2:38 there is nothing that can erase that, as long as you continue in His Word, not even if your name is on the RCC roll sheet...

God can save your family regardless if our name is on the roll sheet, the main thing that will win over your family is seeing what the True God has done in your life and the Light and Liberty of this Great Salvation...

Great Post!
Many times we desire to see our families saved to the extent that we try to
save them, Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build.
Except the Lord KEEP the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. God is
able to do exceeding abundantly above all we can think or ask, According
to the POWER (Holy Ghost) that worketh in us. Building up yourselves on
your most holy faith, PRAYING IN THE HOLY GHOST!!

If anyone is saved it is ALMIGHTY GOD that will do it! "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him."--John 6:44.

We can pray and let our light shine before our families and the Spirit of the
Living GOD IN us will draw them.

2Cor. 4:6,7
6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

Today IF they see God, it will be because of Christ in us, the HOPE of
glory. Just as the GLORY OF GOD shined out, in the face of Jesus Christ,
it will shine out of our hearts, to give the LIGHT of the knowledge of the
glory of God, in our faces also. Good reason to keep oil in our lamps and
burning.

Let your loins be girded about (with truth), and your lights burning; Luke 12:35 KJV

Keep your lamps all trimmed and burning;
For the Bridegroom watch and wait.
He’ll be with us at the meeting
Just inside the Eastern Gate.

Re: Should I Get Excommunicated?

I am afraid my statement about the eldership in my assembly came across too rashly...

I do give double honor to the elder of my assembly who labors in the word and in doctrine.

He has advised me not to get excommunicated.

I will have to take this all to prayer. The advice everyone gave was helpful. Truthfully, in my heart so far, I feel that getting excommunicated to be "revolutionary" might not be the best of intents, however, I am surprised that some here who voted "No" (the majority) did not make any response or give any interpretation for the verses where JESUS spoke of setting families against each other- it almost seems like there are Scriptures you don't believe in.
