Re: If Your Depressed and Despondent Get Some Hel

Can one have the JOY of the lord and be depressed? Peace and anxiety together?

It's medicine though. If we go to the doc for a problem with our stomach, why do we call a time-out when it comes to our mind?
Interesting you was against drinking wine but ok with pysch drugs

There are neurological disorders that cause anxiety. Also, anxiety is a symptom of a host of other diseases. It's one way that your body is telling you that there's something wrong and you need to get some help.

But none of that can remove our hope which is the source of our joy.

That poor little Pentecostal girl up in Wisconsin was feeling "depressed" and, no doubt, generalized anxiety last week. Now she's dead.

This is a bit off topic, but I was wondering to what you were referring to here since I hadn't seen anything on the forum about it.

Re: If Your Depressed and Despondent Get Some Hel

Can a Christian get sick? Can a Christian experience moral failure?

In troubled times, we should turn first to the Lord. He gives us wisdom and guidance to live our lives in a way that brings honor to Him. But Christians should not pick one or two words out of a scripture, isolate them and use them as a bully pulpit without considering the full context and appropriate application of scripture to crisis situations in the human condition.

If your kid is sick, take 'em to the doctor. If your friend is suffering, be willing to ensure he/she gets proper care. "We're praying for you" doesn't cut it. We need to put feet to our faith.

I was a bit oblique if you were unaware of that tragic event.

Truthseeker, Philippians 4:4-9 was written to a group of believers who would face having their heads chopped off, being burned alive and stoned to death. Through all of that, there are bound to be a few anxious moments.

Paul's words were intended to steady the believers and give them a reassurance of the knowledge that "the God of peace" would always be with them. It's kind of hard for us today to contextualize many of the things that were said in the New Testament, but consider: Paul was giving them assurances and NOT commanding and dictating that they all should have the jollies.

Where did you come up with that? We had a young man with a nicotene addiction. He tried therapy, counseling, the patch and substitution in addition to systematic desensitization and notheing worked. NOTHING. My pastor and i prayed for him and he wasn't even at church. The next day he reported no more smoking ever. He the previous evening had at a certain time started feeling an aversion to smoke.

I can't find a Psych in this country that can facilitate removal of an addiction and do so 15 miles from the patient.

Hypochondriasis is hard to cure. We know couples that get pregnant that have tried everything for years. They get prayed for and a few months later they are expecting.

I am not against medicine. I have had the pleasure of drilling burr holes.

By the way, in medicine we always said, Only surgeons cure.
