Re: The Presence of God

I like sitting in the woods on a fallen tree/log enjoying the serenity and beauty of God's creation. There are also times where I've been so overwhelmed by God's presence (very hard to describe) while driving that I had to pull off the road.
I'm not a runner, dancer, shouter, and I very seldom weep. Some would say I'm a bump on a log when it comes to modern Pentecostal worship.
I can relate to the man commonsense speaks of because I too am involved in the music ministry and I have been told quite the same thing. I play trumpet, and I can speak to God with the trumpet in a language no human can comprehend unless the Spirit translates it to them. And in that language, I do worship, with all my heart, soul and ability, I worship.
To me it's really not all about feelings. It's the certainty of knowing that God is always right here, no matter what. It's the certainty of knowing that one day, I will see Him as He is. God bless...

Thanks to everyone for your sharing. We have heard so many awesome thoughts and experiences. Paul, I relate to your response. I feel that because of what I would call the extreme emotion of some, that we miss the closeness of God's presence. Bro Lawrence wrote about it, "The Practice of The Presence of God." Good book. We need to practice His presence every day!

But consider this.... “11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” Psalms 16:11, KJV.

“20 Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.” Psalms 31:20, KJV.

“24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for usHebrews 9:24, KJV.

There are times when we need to hear the still small voice... the personal presence of God. Some say, "Boy, didn't we have church.".....because of the extreme manifestation of emotions. And emotions are okay, unless that's all you live for. The error, in my opinion, is feeling that the only good service is when everybody runs, screams and shouts. And then tomorrow the emotions are gone.

But consider this ...... “11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?”
1 Kings 19:11-13, KJV.

Re: The Presence of God

I weep in His presence -- not a sad thing; a beautiful thing.

I am not opposed to ushering in His presence with genuine praise and worship. After all, doesn't the Bible say He inhabits the praise of His people? (I AM opposed to cheerleading.)

When "it" happens, it usually starts with one or two who are "in the Spirit," then it kinda spreads. And everyone reacts in their own way. Like I said, I usually weep. And sometimes it is loud; and other times there is a Holy hush.

In His presence stuff happens. Miracles. Healings. Revelations. Resolve. You name it, He has it.

Nothing like being In His Presence.

That passage in 1 Kings 19 is one of my favorite ever.
