This is a full gathered skirt with split legs - there is no flap, slap or whatever.

WH, you cannot honestly look at that pic and say those are shorts. It the word 'culottes' wasn't on it, you would think it was a skirt.
And culottes don't have flaps. Are you reading the posts, telling you what you are referring to?
Scooter skirts......not culottes.

And aren't those Bermuda shorts you are talking about above?
Kinda sorta but not really. Bermuda shorts are more straight. The ones that I'm thinking about had somewhat of a flair, because they were actually accepted at our UPC outside functions. Bermudas would not have been.
Yeah, the skorts are what he's describing and I posted a just a couple of minutes ago, we also called them skooter skirts when I was in school.

Gauchos are similar to culottes only with narrower legs and possibly longer as well.

Any time you put one leg in sone side and the other leg in the other side it not a skirt.
And I don't need you r definition of culottes. My grandmother was a seamstress and I have saw the patterns, and the were called culotte (70's).

No, sometimes they are called underwear and sometimes they are called pantyhose and sometimes they are called pajamas.
