Besides, after a few times flirting with such 'superfun rockband religion', it's just a matter of time before the victims realize that the world does a rock'n'roll concert much better...

...and then it's off to the pig-pen we go.

I certainly don't condone the rock "look" on the video. I personally don't find all christian rock offensive. I like the old Petra stuff. But I think these groups err when they take on rock "culture". And you're right, our motive should not be to make things "fun".

Well not sure how to put this. Of the videos so far my preference would be from the Swaggert meeting. This was along the lines of praise I was most aquainted with in the Charismatic movement in those years.

This kind of praise and worship is ideally suited for smaller groups. Most groups I was around were like that. It does sound great even in the Swaggert setting. It is almost if not THE perfect praise and worship style. It is the style I said is practically dead, in that you rarely see it anymore.

Now the Hillsong video I personally like. There are thousands of people at Hillsong a very large place so it can be louder. The majority of people there are young people no doubt many of them drawn there by the music in the first place. When I see hundreds if not thousands of young people praising the Lord it makes me happy.

I understand the difference between a concert and corporate worship. The difference need not be that sharp. If the words are posted by a projecter the people can sing a long and the praise band COULD be mindful of the need for a more full inclusion of all saints.

The videos in post 51 and 52 are my least favorite of ones posted. Yes I have been among groups like that and having tasted of a more heavenly atmosphere in worship have no desire to go back.

You sure that's what they're doing?

I watched that video and an image of someone sparkin' up and passin it around is what kept coming to mind...not to mention there is a FEELING that goes with the 'rock concert atmosphere'... and that FEELING ain't all that holy...

And then we wonder why so many 'church youth' have no better morals than the world...?

Re: Is music taking over the church?

I would also point out... it's not 'the music style' that is the major issue in all this.

It's the whole shebang... the whole 'gestalt', the whole zeitgeist, weltanschlung or whatever it is those Germans called it... the 'big picture', everything taken together as a whole...

The 'worship music' of today, by and large (not everywhere or all the time, but by and large from what I have experienced and seen) is missing HEART. It's not GENUINE, it's not HUMBLE, and quite frankly it's WORLDLY.

Least that's how it comes across to me.

THAT'S what we are missing...

If you are talking about the "Hillsong" heres my take. I would have no problem at all with my kids being in that kind of worship. I would not have any problem with me being there. No I do not like the long hair on men look as I used to be part of but this would be far ahead of where my three daughters are right now.

I would be happy if they spent their time listening to Hillsong Music instead of the things they are doing.

Now having said that you know how I feel about Biblical truth. So that rules out most of the Churches out there now that may even do music I like. I could see myself driving a few miles to be in that kind of Praise meeting for a pick me up but would never commit to it.

I would like to see a video of what you think praise and worship should be like.

Wow that is good! So what group is doing this? I do like it. One advantage to me concerning the newer music is that there are at times very short choruses or verses which make them easier to memorize. I remember having to sing out of the hymn book in the Baptist Church and Church of Christ and usually I could just remember the choruses.

I felt really edified watching the people praising the Lord. Yes I have to get past the liberal dress but as far as praising the Lord in a glorious way Hillsong to me is great. It never hit me that they might be passin something around.

I was a hippie rock concert smoking pot in the concerts sinner and believe me Hillsong in no way reminds me of that.

I believe they are a Church of God somewhere.
