Why don't someone write a resolution to get rid of the AS?

I did not join the UPC specifically because of the affirmation statement. They have lost more than a few young ministers. Also there are many many pastors who are part of the UPC that license their younger ministers under their local church 503c because its less hassle. They just maintain the senior pastors license in the UPC to maintain a tie to the denomination and just do local church licensing. Its one of the reasons the UPC isn't showing more ministers on their books and its a wide spread practice.

I myself am licensed this way and find it to make more sense than dealing with the manuals legacy issues like kids in high school sports or "worldly amusements" like Disneyworld.

Oh I understand. As to why they didn't include scripture for it.

This stupid AS document will continue to be a bone of contention as long as it is around. Until that stupid thing is finally discarded in the scrap heap of "some really dumb things we've done that failed," it will continue to be discussed, debated, rehashed, and generate ill feelings among reluctant signators of it.

I suppose that in the twilight zone where the divine and carnal meet, there will continue to be more and more resolutions adopted that will continue to demonstrate the waining light of divine guidance as the darkness of carnality becomes more apparent.

Just what STUPID resolution can we look forward to NEXT? I wonder.

There is someone, a member of AFF that posts often, that tried a few years ago. It got shot down.

We have to learn to live according to our convictions and not try to force others to obey those very same convictions. Many good men believe that television hinders Christian maturity and growth and they teach against owning one. Others agree but favor moderation. Why not just allow pastors to pastor their churches instead of making edicts and trying to force everyone to obey? Live your convictions...don't try force others to.

The articles of faith simply state that the UPCI disapproves of members owning televisions and admonishes us to refrain from these things. The organization can choose not to approve of something and allow it to be a matter of personal conviction. The American Heart Association doesn't approve of Americans eating fast food on a daily basis...but the choice is left to the individual.

I am aware of well known pastor that has never signed the AS since 1992 until this date.

His wife is determined to keep him in the UPC so, she signs it and sends it back. It has worked so far. Everything is hunkey-dorey in Hazelwood with it. I suppose Wiley Cayote could sign it and it would be just fine...just so long as something scratched something on the appropriate line.

Kind of gives you an indication of their true opinion of that stupid statement.
