Re: Child Slaps his Mom on Doc Phil show-please wa
I agree with MFBlume--"shut up" is just unnecessary. If I have to shriek at my kids or use overly harsh communication, I'm not parenting properly. They should be disciplined well enough to obey without that.
Our children are VERY well behaved. They're still kids, but they are good kids. (With occasional bratty aberrations they inherited directly from me, not Jeff!) We rarely spank them, rarely have to ground them for anything, and things rarely get out of hand in our house. Discipline is something best taught early, and consistency is the key--not heavy-handedness.
Children will do whatever they have to, to get attention, even if that means behaving very, very badly. I agree that the mother was only holding back because of the camera. Her son looked like he was almost testing her to see how far he could push, and I would say he was hurt by her lack of response. Unfortunately, her lack of response on camera probably means she knew her usual response would be inappropriate.

Re: Child Slaps his Mom on Doc Phil show-please wa
I have never slapped my kids face ever....and won't...
it is degrading to do so...
But I have whipped their butt when they needed it...
(and I can count on my fingers how many times I have spanked my sons since they were born)
That child would change in about 60 sec's if he were around me... maybe less...
I don't put up with it...

Disciplining kids while in a fit of anger is as wrong as the children's disobedience.

I think I read according to Dr. Dobson it is okay...He said the children need to know your upset.... they can deal with it...
It's what you do when your upset that matters...How you deal with it is what they will learn from....
It's okay to get upset when things happen...

Be ye angry and sin not. Nothing in the Bible against being angry.
