People used to get out of the house and spend time with people, now they talk on internet forums, or play online games together.
So whereas we know more information, we actually know each other less.

Yeah. This is a strange and wierd sort of "progression".

I agree with this as well, with the exception that I believe these should be individual choices rather than church mandates.

I think where the amish get it wrong is that they focus on rules (I could make a parallel here, but I will behave!). They want to keep a simplier lifestyle and they arbitrarily decide that having an electric fridge would ruin that (but that a gas generator power one is ok).
I think it's really a matter of perspective, and a matter of priorities.
Are you in control of the technology in your life, or is it in control of you? What's more important; having money to buy the latest toys, or having time to spend with friends and family?
It's all a matter of choice.

This is all true on the one level of this discussion. For example, we still don't have a tv hooked up over three years after leaving the UPC. Why? It is a personal choice because we just like it that way. Not heaven or hell, just a preference.
Then, on the other societal side, I'm not sure we can do anything about it. I don't know that spending cash and all that would help. What do you think?

Very true.We should all walk the direction God calles in our own individual walk with him there may be something that is a stumbeling block to one but be a non-issue to someone else.

Re: Progress??
Something else about "progress" that is bothering me is higher education. I am not at all opposed to higher education. In some instances I am definately for it! What I am talking about is how certain jobs are being buttoned up unless you have a degree. Take my husband for instance. He is in business management and is there by experience. He has 20 years experience and some places will still hire him without a degree. But more and more places are saying you have to have a degree or they won't even look at you. What is wrong with this picture? Also, the job I used to do in a smaller town, I am no longer qualified to do because I do not have more college behind my belt. It does not matter what college I have as far as subject. There is just a certain amount required...it can be in underwater basket weaving. So, an underwater basket weaver is qualified but I, who have experience, am not.
I find it ironic that liberals, who mostly run colleges, who are supposed to be so "compassionate" towards poverty are getting these jobs all buttoned up so you must have a degree to get them.
