On a side note, I would suggest that "for behold, the kingdom" etc is actually a continuation of the hypothetical quote, belonging to "lo here, lo there".
In other words, I think Jesus was saying the time would come when people might incorrectly claim the kingdom of God had arrived (via the Messiah's presence) and was present in a particular city or locale. Thus, people might be saying "behold! Here (or there) the kingdom of God is within you" ie within your gates.
The punctuation in the AV is not inspired, and this alternative reading actually makes more sense. Otherwise, we have Jesus telling the hypocritical Pharisees that the kingdom of God was within them (not "among them" as some try to suggest.) Just my opinion, though.
