We talked to Tabitha and told her that if she still has the desire to go, she can after she finishes at Lee. She can work and we will help.

I told my son the same thing! He is finishing his ironworker apprenticeship this year which gives him an associates degree. With those skills he will be able to make a generous wage and then if he wants to go to Bible College I'll support him as best I can.
He actually got almost a complete free ride to Anderson University [Church of God] but instead chose to work and get his ironworker license/card and then it gave him time to grow up and decide what he really wants to do.
So many young men choose ministry because their fathers, grandfathers, ect...it is all they know. My son needs to chose as God calls him; not dad or granddad.
Blessings, Rhoni
P.S. What many don't understand is that Bible College isn't as spiritual a place as one is led to believe.

I think he's doing the right thing. But then again, that's what we are doing so I'm gonna think it. But as I said- if they are not going to devote their life to fulltime ministry as a career, I think they need the university, not the school of ministry.

Well I disagree. The local church can be a stagnant enviroment in many instances. There is more life than laboring and waiting for the pastor to call you up to the platform which may or maynot happen.I think the enviroment is great in bible college to develop friendships and other things as well with others who are your age and you will likely minister with in the future.
It would depend on the pastor and if that pastor can educate you. Some face it cannot(enough said on that issue.)

not every church has a music department for instance. what if there is a youth that is in a remote area who could really excel in the field of music but needs to be around a structured environment that provides good training?
I agree that most young men coming up in the ministry can be trained right in their local church but some do need the bible school environment which provides a place for the girls to find a husband .... kidding now

Just curious here: why is anyone waiting for the pastor to call them up to the platform? It seems to me that if someone is going to be in ministry, then they are going to pursue it under the watchful eye of a pastor.
There is more to ministry than the platform as I am sure you will agree.
I am glad to hear that S is being useful to the kingdom. I do believe that she has a lot of potential and God will certainly use that as it develops.

You know as well as I do that not alot of ministry training goes on in the local churchs as it ought to.I think bible college is a great idea if a person can
go.I would not recommend it for older adults because they can probably benefit from the local church more than a young person.I also think going out on weekends to help in local assemlies is a good thing for young people.
BTW S is already on the platform so with her that isn't the issue.I have known preachers who have sat stagnant in churches even though they held fellowship cards and were never recognized.I have seen it eat them alive.
