Well, you and I know they will wear whatever is in style, and what is currently being sold at the stores.
I do wish those had been around when I was growing up UPC and ice skating and skiing with girls with skirts over their snowsuits. It still does not make as much sense as normal winter gear but at least is a bit more reasonable.
As far as making sense as normal winter wear, they were just as warm as anyone else out there.
Once you start layering clothing, you will be warm. Tights, socks etc...

I have the same tanning problem. I turn red then white again! I got in our pool for the first time this summer last week and when my SIL came out the patio door she said that much whiteness almost blinded her.
