My pastor has taught before that we shouldn't watch anything we would be embarrassed for our children to see. That's a pretty good rule of thumb. He doesn't preach against watching movies or television.
He also teaches that computers (with internet access) should be in a major room of the house, facing outward so they can be easily seen by anyone passing through.
Personally, I think the dangers of the internet are FAR greater than the dangers of television.
And of course, ANY computer with internet access is a "tv-ready device."
