I work in a hospital. I can spot the housekeepers from the nurses and them from the doctors..... WHEN they are dressed according to our system's standards. If I were to need a doctor, I'd KNOW (if they are dressed per "standards") who to run to. When they are walking around dressed any ol' way they chose, you can't tell one from the other (some- or most times).
Along those lines, I've always used this example (and pardon me that it works best with, but not exclusively with, women): if you desperately needed prayer at a car accident and two women were walking your way and one was dressed "worldly" and the other like an Apostolic who holds to the stricter standards of dress, who would you run to first?
Please don't assume I think outward dress saves anyone, but there is a place for it in the world. (I'm not even saying the more strict dresser is the best one to have pray for your need!) There may not be time for someone to see your fruit, even though I think that is the best indicator to the world of who is a Christian.
Just a thought.

I understand what you are saying, because I have been taught the same. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I see it's works as a good analogy for support.
I agree that in some instances we are an attraction to some, BUT I've seen that our attitudes have left a bad taste in the mouth of many people. For example, more times than not, I have heard the fear that some have of a saint moving and wondering what the church will be like where they are moving. That to me is sad.
I'm not trying to chunk what we are doing. I am just wondering why so many of the women are unhappy and have sound countenances? And why when you run into them at the mall are they afraid to speak and be friendly. I talk to everyone - sinner or saint. It doesn't make any difference to me. My mother once told me, "You will talk to just anyone, won't you?" lol!
What I have experienced is this - If you watch a group of women you will usually have one that is leading. If the one leading is a sourpuss it's going to bring the other women down. I've been in that situation where I chose to remain outside of the circle because my personality can't be brought that low.
Now keep in mind, that I am not broadbrushing the country here. I am just pointing out my observations in my local.

If I was dying in a car accident and I saw anybody willing to pray for me, I'd trust their prayers. Do you think God only listens to women who are dressed right?
That's just down right dumb.

This is so wrong in many ways. To most the world the Apostolic would be viewed as someone who might be poor or just doesn't know how dress, or from overseas. To pick someone because of their clothes is wrong.

LOL!!!! For real, but we know we couldn't pick you because you have a beard.
What if the two women just crawled out of the other car that was hit in the accident and their clothes were torn off them, oh yeah, and they were the pastor's wife and minister of music at the local UPC church.
Just dumb, dumb, dumb!

How "holiness" ever became synonymous with clothing is beyond me. NO ONE reading the bible would ever come up with that unless they were primed and pumped from outward emphasizers. Because I know what most who read the polls think of "holiness" I voted 2.

yeah, but say for instance I was to go lay on the beach clad in nothing but a speedo, I would be violating standards. I whould also be forsaking holiness.

I agree that would be quite immodest. There is a problem that needs to be corrected. But necessarily hell? What about someone just newly saved and was never taught modesty yet? Never even had the time for God to deal with them about such things?
Anyway, watch the thread fly... and others get no where. lol

But you do have a point. It should be a decency and modesty issue, IMO.
