Well, it's not just one place or church that we've eaten out at. It is most of the home cooking style restaurants, and general cooking wherever you go, unless you find a chain-style restaurant like Chili's or KFC or whatever that is the same no matter where you go in the world.
Your style of cooking sounds wonderful, and I know there are always exceptions to every rule!!!!!!

I also like grilled green beans with bacon wrapped around them. I love grilled asparagus, mozzarella stuffed bell peppers or pablo peppers.

Your story reminds me of my mother who thought that mashed potatoes were exactly that... mashed potatoes - no salt, or pepper or butter or milk... it was awful! So dry the potatoes would stick to your mouth. Thankfully she mostly made gravy with the meals, so that helped some. But when I was old enough to do it differently, you can be sure the potatoes had some real stuff in them like salt, pepper, lots of butter and milk... yumm!!

Re: What can you NOT do?
one of my daycare kids declared over and over that he did NOT like green beans. One day I had made them for the kids for lunch - yes, with butter, salt and pepper - and told him he had to at least taste them. He picked one up, but into it and declared, "hey, these are hot! My mom makes them cold". huh? So I asked the mom and she told me that she made green beans by opening the cans and pouring them into a bowl. ICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not like those either. Mom was frustrated sometimes because Dad and I have very selective tastes (I believe that came from Grandpa). The rest of the family would eat nearly anything. It made dinner very interesting.

That is just nasty. Some things were meant to be eaten cold, however while I utterly detest those things, I would never serve them cold from the can. Even I know better than that, they would be slimy cold and nasty.

I told her that he had said that and she said he was right. She doesn't like green beans, so that's how she serves them. No wonder she doesn't like them! I told her how to make them next time for her family. She tried it my way and decided that they all ate them much better now. duh!

Re: What can you NOT do?
We used to have a neighbor who would cook spaghetti noodles and then pour sauce straight out of the jar over the noodles. She called that nasty mess "spaghetti". My kids about gagged when they heard that.

Heh. The green beans don't taste any better when warmed either.

I once ate "spaghetti" at an aunts house. While making it she described it as "Pasta noodles with a thick tomato sauce". Well it turned out to be a small handful of macaroni noodles "swimming" in a bowl of Cambles tomato soup. One of the most disgusting things I ever had in front of me that I actually took a bite of.
Another miserable example of Wisconsin cooking.

Re: What can you NOT do?
Mom used to make that for us too.
Something about stretching the dollar....to fill up 4 kids.
