Encourage him to not focus on his homosexual feelings right now. He needs to focus on Jesus and all Jesus has done for him. Remember, God loves him even though he is a sinner. Encourage him to seek and receive the Holy Ghost. He needs regeneration before he can understand, the carnal unregenerated mind can't receive the things of God. Then encourage that he pray and search the Scriptures himself. Encourage him to allow God to reveal why it isn't in God's divine plan for him personally.
God is love. God only desires that we love others as ourselves. Homosexuality can't truly manifest "love" as God desires, only varying degrees of lust and self serving fraternity. When he realizes the depth to which he has allowed himself to use others and be used by them, only then will he begin to see why it isn't pleasing to a God who is truly "love".
Essentially, isn't this the core of all sexual sin? The gratuitous use and abuse of self and others for selfish gratification? Such is void of true love.
One cannot truly love their neighbor... and continue to use them to fulfill carnal lusts as though they are objects to gratify the flesh and self.

Other than "the bible says so," Christians have no valid argument why the behavior is wrong. If someone wants to argue that homosexuality is unnatural, consider the fact that there are over 400 species where homosexuality is common, and only one species is anti-homosexual.

Not the same as saying homosexuality is a sin without using the Bible, but the National Organization for Marriage has a pamphlet of "77 incontrovertible statements in support of Natural Marriage" without using religion. Incontrovertible! Sadly, it seems that it is no longer available online. I read some of it a while back. It was funny.
