Sounds like some people want a church to be like Planet Fitness.

Re: Is it true that....

Who is paying hundreds of dollars for a suit? I got like 4 and only one of them even cost over 100.... If a person CHOOSES to pay way too much for their clothing that is their deal... not mine.

There is nothing wrong with having nice clothes. A friend of mine gave me a suit the other day that cost like 15 bucks. He even bought me a tie that goes with it.

I personally like wearing suits to church. I have worn sweaters and just slacks and a dress shirt many many times. Don't know where you all go to church but I've never been so much as looked down upon because of my apparel. I don't want to wear blue jeans to church, so I won't. If you guys CHOOSE to be around people who are legalistic and what not that is your CHOICE. I have been in the UPCI my entire life.

Sometimes, I inwardly scoff at many of these legalistic people of which you speak. I also have certain mentors who I CHOSE that I can ask questions about just about anything. These mentors I believe keep me grounded. Does this mean I always abide exactly with what they think? Not necessarily. Sometimes to my dismay and I have to learn the hard way. Sometimes I don't listen and it doesn't matter one way or another. Most times I listen and understand later.

The point is, why should you let others who you clearly do not respect or think are right (with God or otherwise) determine your opinion of an organization?

Tell me, what would Jesus do? Did he never go back into the synagogue after the pharisees (near constantly) accused him of things that were false? or antagonizingly questioned him?

Who do you love more? God or ANYTHING ELSE? This includes people's perceptions of you. (However wrong they may be)

I've been called rebellious before (not for my dress but that's beside the point). I've been punished by a person who thought they had some sort of spiritual authority over me. (They didn't). I move on and through my continued actions it is revealed that I'm not rebellious. One person or a couple people refuse to let this change their opinon but WHO CARES? The one person who matters knows my heart. Others will follow suit if they so CHOOSE. If I suffer a bit or a lot until they understand, oh well. If they talk bad about me behind my back, oh well.

How long will you let the cares of this world run your life or influence your heart?
