Then what is the principle of 10%? We know God already owns it all...

All your increase? If you had 10 kids would give one to the pastor? TIC

One note. If you decide to pay a tithe on the sale of your home and the current increase. That is fine if you feel you should.

What I would do is come up with a list of all the known repairs and items you did to the home.

The money you invested in the home to fix it up etc.

Like adding on to the house, fixing up a basement etc.

You already paid tithe on the money you used to fix up the house.

Take that away from the balance of the increase.

Becaue you paid for part of the increase already.

My opinion, at the end of the day what you feel is right.

Will be the right thing.

My thouhts are meant only as my own, and how ministers have shared with me their thoughts over the years...

One more note.

My unlce who is a UPCI minister told me that you should also subtract the amount of interest you paid on the home during the time you lived in the home.

So if you paid $7,000.00 a year in interest for 10 years and paid in close to $70,000.00 in interest over say 10 years and you sell your house.

Then want to buy a new one. If you feel you should tithe the increase. Subtract out the $70,000.00 from the gain.

Then add back 28% of the $70,000.00 if you did not tithe on your income tax return.

Because 28% is the average you get back on your return from the interest you paid.

SO the real rule would be to subtract out of the increase 67% of the interest you paid.

In the idea of the example above you would take

70,000.00 x 67% = $46,900.00

SO subtract the $49,900.00 from the increase in the value of your home.

You already paid a tithe on the money you used to pay the interest.

Nehemiah 10:38 - And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.
