Uh oh!

Whatís the point of repenting if youíre not forgiven?

Especially, a sinner that never knew God, comes to church with a damaged past? Received the Holy Ghost, is told all your sins are washed. Only to find out, God is still holding your previous marriage above your head. Iím sorry the blood didnít cover that.....

I do believe an ex adulterer can be saved, I guess I'm reading the question as if this were happening among "believers".

According to the Orthodox system:

1. No marriage or remarriage can occur except as officiated and blessed by a church official (bishop).

2. Divorce is a sin, but pardonable by the Church on certain conditions.

3. Remarriage is a possibility but only IF the Church agrees, upon certain conditions. Remarriage is performed according to a PENITENTIAL mode in contrast to a first marriage. Fourth marriages are strictly not allowed, period.

4. Remarriage is an act of economia, an official suspension of canon law, given only in certain conditions, at the prerogative of the Church.

Which means a person's divorce, and remarriage, are up to the priest to decide to allow and authorize.

Therefore, demanding Scripture for justification of a doctrine is unorthodox and potentially heretical when a duly anointed/appointed official of the church has rendered a judicial opinion. If you disagree you can take it up with a synod.

A few questions if I may?

1. By new wife do you mean his new wife?

2. If he remarries, and it is adultery, then his previous marriage must still be valid. Is his former wife required to remain unmarried as well?

3. Was a man authorised to have more than one wife prior to the coming of Jesus? If so, did something change that disallowed a man to have more than one wife? And if yes, what was the change and where is the new legislation?

4. If he does not repent, and remarries, does his new wife commit adultery?

5. If he does repent, and remarries, does his new wife commit adultery?

The blood washes away the marriage bond? Wouldn't that imply every person who converts has their marriage dissolved?

If a woman divorces and remarries, so that her marriage is no marriage but adultery, and then becomes a Christian, is her adultery now sanctified as holy matrimony?

I am well aware of this system, and it's up to the bishop, not the priest. I think it allows for the situation to be properly examined and judged. I am not divorced so this is not some personal vendetta.

I assume the guy putting people in Hell is not Orthodox, so I am asking him for his scripture that he uses to justify this. ROFL. I wouldn't ask a Catholic to quote the Talmud so I wouldn't ask a Oneness Pentecostal to quote Eastern Orthodox canons.
