No. It takes a lot of effort to get into the military academies. My older son will only join if he can fly planes and the Navy wouldn't make any promises although he passed the testing with flying colors and he's only one class shy of a math degree.
My youngest son got into some trouble and would not qualify for an academy.

If a recruiter guarantees that you'll get to choose your MOS, he is lying. But, most I know who are in the service were able to select their MOS.
It's on a "need" basis, as in, if they need to fill spots somewhere, well, you get "volun-told" what you are going to do.

My enlistment papers clearly stated my rate (MOS), bonuses, college fund and that I would make E-4 immediately on completion of my schooling... and it all happened.

None of the above!
My MIL bribed my husband, and back then I was still attempting to be a submissive wife

Well, let's see. I moved here to come be part of a church that was trying to get off the ground. That basically fell apart, so now we are basically stuck here until some things happen and the Lord opens the door for us to leave. I promised my son we would not move while he was in high school so we have at least three more school years to go. My hope is to finish college and get my bachelors degree by the time he graduates (I start June 25th) and then put as many miles between me and this one horse town as the Lord will allow. My hope is to move South, maybe TN or GA even.

I moved out of state 3 times. Always to come back. It must be the water.
Anyway, after that I moved to the next town over, then back again a few
times.
Instability, yes. But, I'm almost still young. If I had a family, I would become
stationary.

ok, Berk.. I see what yer sayin'. Before I married and had a family I lived in two different cities in Michigan for a total of 4 years and 1 year in Kentucky (not a good experience. Not that Ky. is bad. The experience was just awful).
So yes, I did live away. But like you, once I married, stability became a huge plus for me.

We live in a small town close to the Lake of the Ozarks, MO. just a few miles from where I was raised. Nice, friendly people here - not a terrible place by any means, but if we could simply choose we would likely live in or close to a larger city. I have a good business established here allowing my wife (who is an RN) to stay home with the children. One thing that makes it easier for us to live here is our ability to travel some. We try to take an international trip every other year, and travel in the states in the off year. It is a great place to come back to and is where most of my family also calls home.
