Interesting perspective. In a nutshell, the writer seems to understand and see Jesus as the head brother, the men believers are the brethren, and women believers are the sisters. I've never quite heard it put that way before.

Chad, I didn't see that the author was saying she didn't believe Jesus was God, but just that while on earth, he was fully man, as much as he was fully God.

There is such a paranoia and hysteria in the Oneness movement about the humanity of Jesus Christ, as if to even come close to hinting at it being TRUTH, is equal to damnable heresy.

The fact is, we deny His humanity and Sonship to our eternal peril (1 John 2:21).

God has granted us eternal life, and that eternal life is in the Son.

So let's get over it already and accept Jesus as the man He was, someone unashamed to call us brothers.

Hey Votive,

I agree with you that Oneness Christians often dont emphasize Christ's humanity, and they are afraid to make any distinctions between Jesus and the Father.
I believe it does a disservice to the true suffering of Jesus on this earth.

I, however, can't just ignore verses that proclaim his Deity. I'm sure someone somewhere can attempt to point to verses such as John 1:1, Colossians 2:9, John 20:28, as "poor translation", but I don't see it. If every verse that says Jesus is Deity is poorly translated in numerous translations, it's hard to believe anything in the Bible.

Kept, you read all of that? That author clearly doesn't believe Jesus is God.

I think it's an issue of conflating the man Christ Jesus, the Mediator, with God the Father, who, on the one end of the mediation, reconciles us through Christ back to Himself.

When some say "Jesus is God" without any qualifiers, and without paying even lip service to His humanity, they do a disservice to His person. God/the Father was in Christ. God incarnated and manifested Himself through Jesus.

But to say that God trans-substantiated His being and nature is to forget OT teachings regarding the fact that God is not human and He does not change.

In this way, we avoid the conflation.

Apart from the Christology, Chad, do you have any other comments about the humanity of Christ as Head and how it relates to marriage?
