DISCLAIMER:

This thread was started in a light-hearted manner.

I don't mind discussing general things and Biblical principles, but I will not usurp the position of anybody's pastor, on the internet or anywhere else.

So keep in mind the nature of the beast.

Thank you.

Does prayer change the mind of God...

How much of an effect does the concept, "Lord I know you can, if you only will..." have on our faith?

Carp,

This is a subject worthy of a book, not a post, and it has stymied smarter people than I am for sure.

Prayer can and often does change the mind of the supplicant.

As to changeing the mind of God?

I could give you Scripture that would seem to support a couple of different views, to be honest.

There are things about the mind of God that will forever be beyond our comprehension on this side of the Milky Way.

Speaking prophetically of the destruction of Jerusalem, Jesus said, "Pray that your flight be not in winter..."

The destruction of Jerusalem was set in stone. It was going to happen. But apparently the Lord was willing to change the timing of it to a more advantageous season if His people availed themselves of the opportunity to pray.

the most compelling reason to pray is not because of the expected result as much as because we are instructed to pray by the Word, and because communion with my Saviour is an awesome privilege in and of itself, for its own sake.

I may revisit the subject more later.

I have seen enough miracles wrought through prayer that I will ever be a believer.

My mother's birthday is February 2, and she did see her shadow.

There will be six more weeks of winter.
