Gospel of the Kingdom vs Gospel of Salvation

Jesus preached and commanded His disciples to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom. Most churches today only preach the Gospel of Salvation. You do not often hear a message on the Gospel of the Kingdom.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Gospel of Salvation is not found anywhere in scripture. Why then have we changed from Jesus' command to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom, to preaching only the Gospel of Salvation?

And what are the differences between the Gospel of the Kingdom and the Gospel of Salvation?

I found an excellent comparison within an article by Charisma Magazine:

"Gospel of Salvation
Focus: Evangelism/salvation
Eternal, heavenly focus
Addresses only the soul
“Rapture escape” mentality
Sacred vs. secular—dualism
Goal: Transaction, “win the next soul”

Gospel of the Kingdom
Focus: Taking dominion
Material, social, earthly, secular
Addresses soul and body
“Possess the land” mentality
Impacts all aspects of society
Goal: Influence through servanthood, godly leadership, active faith

This diagram shows the contrast between the gospel of salvation and the gospel of the kingdom. One is passive; the other is active, with a goal of taking possession, as Joshua was instructed."

You need a smarter guy than this trout fisherman to provide a satisfactory answer. But I'll take a swing at it.

The gospel of the kingdom was what Christ was accomplishing during his earthly ministry. The gospels are full of it, because I think Christ was the one who used it the most.

Several of the disciples were fisherman, so you're in good company.

Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom, Matthew 4:23 and 9:35. He instructed both the disciples and the seventy He sent out to do the same in Matthew 10 and Luke 10. Before He ascended, he told his disciples to teach all nations to observe everything He commanded them. So it does not appear that the Gospel of the Kingdom ended with the completion of Jesus' ministry on earth.

Let me take another swing at it.

The nation of Israel was the physical kingdom of God on earth. Jesus came to establish a spiritual kingdom. That is what he meant by kingdom of heaven, gospel of kingdom, etc.

The apostles continued the same work but with a different vocabulary.

Except a man be born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God. John 3:5.

How so? Read the whole second chapter of Acts up to Acts 2:38, Peter proclaimed that the kingdom of God had come! And said "he that believes and calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved". From there Peter expounded that Jesus Christ was the messiah and fulfilled the OT prophecies. But Peter went beyond that to those particular Jews, and said, "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ".

Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Man has added the words, "to be saved" at the end of this verse. But that is not what they ask. they ask how can we be reconciled to God after such a grave sin as crucifying the Christ.
To which Peter responded "repent and be baptized", this was something every Jew understood explicitly because baptism was part of the Jewish law of cleansing. This was a requirement to repentance a Jew could grasp and hold onto thus the answer of a clear conscious before God that they could feel worthy of receiving the gift of God.
But the good news gospel message was not Acts 2:38, the declaration that the kingdom of God had come and Jesus was Lord and Christ.
If you do not believe this read every other message in the book of Acts spoken by the apostles, they all proclaimed Jesus Christ and the kingdom of God had come.

"Gospel of Salvation kingdom"
Focus: Evangelism/salvation/Taking dominion
Eternal, heavenly focus/social, earthly, secular
Addresses soul and body

Sacred vs. secular—dualism/Impacts all aspects of society
Goal: Transaction, “win the next soul”/Influence through servanthood, godly leadership, active faith

Salvation comes through being in the kingdom. I believe that God's kingdom exist here on this earth now, but we await the full redemption of the purchased property at Calvary. The Holy Ghost is the earnest of our inheritance, and therefore we are still awaiting the full inheritance. I thank we should preach the kingdom message, but that is a message of temporal and eternal salvation.

Acts 2:38 was in response to the kingdom of God. People enter the kingdom through a Spirit birth.
