Something E.L. Holly Believed? True or Not?

I am currently putting together something for a future ministry project.

It was reported to me in ministry settings that E.L. Holley espoused the idea in a interesting analogy: that ministers need to minister primarily to those who are on top of or near the cliff of life, not those who are already broken and have gone off said cliff and have already crashed, burned up, messed up and are already at the bottom of the cliff.

Does anyone have any documentation or evidence on this position by EL Holley or do you have something to contribute regarding this.

Thanks in Advance,

Keith

I can not imagine that he would have had that belief.

That goes against all of Christianity in my opinion.

Not so sure bout that. I can understand that I think, as long as one does not neglect the other entirely.

I think for too long we have neglected ministering to folks that are not in the down and out point of life.

EVERYONE needs Jesus.

Yes, but Jesus said He came to heal the sick not the whole.

Guess that is my point. We need to redefine "wholeness". Everyone needs Jesus.

[/I]I heard EL Holley at Illinois camp meeting back in the 70's He had a singing group with him called the Hollands.

He was an interesting preacher.

Please lets not make this about personalities, but focus on his belief or teaching about this view.

Surely someone from the Texas District has or hasn't heard this?

Half of the greatest ministers in Christiandom would have been left to rot were this done ...

I would agree that, if true, this seems to go against the ministry of Christ.

Ministering only to those who aren't broken, busted, disgusted and otherwise messed up would, however, allow more time for ministers to play golf.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."
