It starts with a desire to know the truth. A heart and hunger for God. Study what was written by prophets and apostles. To immerse oneself in Gods word is getting to be an alien concept to many in our time.
I really think scripture memorizing is very important to the disciple. That the word can be a part of him or her. We also generally will need to hear several sides of a topic. If all we have heard presents a certain viewpoint we will think we know the truth.
Oneness people get excited when someone turns to Oneness from Trinity. Yet it works the same with certain things they themselves trust in. Say if all one ever heard was "pre trib" rapture the post trib view might initially sound wrong.
Then also we trust the Holy Spirit himself will guide us into all truth as Yeshua promised. That he will meet our desire for truth with personal revelation of it. Not "private" revelation but personal in the sense of simply showing us what is right on a topic.
