Um? Did you mean to say that you do these things in Jesus' name, or am not understanding what you were saying?

Freudian slip maybe? The Trinitarian surfaces for air.

I mean there is no NT precedent for saying "In Jesus Name." We use the Covenant Name of Jesus Christ in all that we do. Colossians 3:17

Re: Why Baptize In Jesus Name

I don't want to argue or debate it but I believe saying "In Jesus Name" in water baptism is just as inaccurate as saying "Father, Son and Holy Ghost." There is no New Testament precedent nor historical precedent for either. Apostolic's are sticklers for details in what is said in water baptism and you can't get two of them to agree to say the same thing when baptizing and they put others in hell for not being Biblically correct!

You sound more "Apostolic" then you think, as much as you mock us, there are those within the oneness diaspora that hold the same doctrine that "proper" baptism must be done in the name "Lord Jesus Christ" or "Jesus Christ".

The fact is though, "Christ" and "Lord" are not names, they are titles as well. Calling Jesus "Jesus the Christ" is no different then calling John "John the Baptist". John's name is not "baptist". "Baptist" is not John's last name or surname. It's simply a title that gave him separate identity from other Johns.

"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord."
Acts 22:16

Here we see baptism clearly being equated with the remission of sins... just for the record.

We also find in this scripture that the remission of sins is in the name of the Lord as well:

"To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins." Acts 10:44

So I guess it's important for us to figure out, for the record, what the name of the Lord is:

"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." Matthew 1:21

"Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;" Philippians 2:9-10

I don't know how much clearer the word of God can be. It's absolutely plain and simple. What is the name of the Lord? JESUS.

If the scripture says plainly to go down calling on the name and Matthew 28:19 backs that up, as well as the remission of sins being in HIS NAME... his name must be invoked. What is his name? Jesus.

Call it what you want, but the word of God does not saying that every knee should bow at the name "Jesus Christ" or "Lord Jesus Christ". It just said "Jesus". Why? Because that is the NAME that was given to the messiah.

I am Apostolic and never said I wasn't and where did I mock you? You guys just LOVE to fight and fuss and argue. You might want to show us where the Apostles said "I baptize you in JESUS NAME or told anyone to baptize "In Jesus Name!" Your argument won't hold water!

Acts 19:5 "When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Re: Why Baptize In Jesus Name

I would say that the term "in the name of the Lord" is fairly obvious in meaning. Who else are they going to be referring to aside from Jesus. I agree the exact wording of the formula used does vary slightly from minister to minister, but that in no way negates the formula. It simply means that we do not have a single incantation that must be said exactly right each time it is repeated the way it is done in paganism or witchcraft.

Acts 22:16 clearly shows that Paul is being told to call or involke the name.
