Long ago, people used to go to idols as their ultimate providers of means of life and health.
Now, idols have been taken away from their education, and became atheist, or cultural christinos (really, unbelievers). What do they go to now as their ultimate provider? The government, the ideologies, the science advancements, their "careers". You wonder why they are so passionate about it, and willing to murder lives for it. After all, Paul said greed is a form of idolatry (Col 3:5).
